The first devotional position is not only a position, it involves the direction of your prayers; and the uprightness not only your posture bodily but also of your life.
We are told in holy Scripture, "A MAN OF UNDERSTANDING WALKS UPRIGHTLY." Proverbs 15:21 "THE UPRIGHT SHALL DWELL IN YOUR PRESENCE." Pslam 140:13
Uprightness is an essential part of the anointing of Christ in holy men and women. To stand before the LORD uprightly in prayer and in thanksgiving and in praise is essential to holy living. We read in the sacred Scriptures:
"And Abraham got up early in the morning to the place where he stood before the LORD:" Genesis 19:27
"But he said, "As the LORD lives, BEFORE WHOM I STAND, I will receive none (nothing). And he (Naaman, the commander of Syria's military) urged him (Elijah) to take (A reward for healing him) it: but he (Elijah) refused." See l Kings 17:l/2 Kings 5:16
"And Elijah, the Tishbite, who was of the inhabitants of Gilead, said unto Ahab, "As the LORD God of Israel lives, BEFORE WHOM I STAND, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word." Zechariah 4:14:
The two witnesses (prophets) mentioned in the book of Revelation were also mentioned by Zechariah, the Prophet who said they will "STAND BEFORE THE LORD OF THE WHOLE EARTH."
By that we understand the practice is carried forward from the Old to the New Testament and the LORD God who is the same yesterday, today and forever; has not changed his mind about the obtaining of his anointing as some would like us to believe, but the laws of the Spirit for entering into the anointing are the same now as they have always been.
Those who wish to build the new creature in Christ would do well to humbly stand before the LORD particularly in the morning sunrise to give thanks unto Him, to praise him and to pray unto him.
You would face East toward Jerusalem. We are not only to "PRAY FOR THE PEACE OF JERUSALEM," (Pslam 122:6); we are to prefer Jerusalem "ABOVE OUR CHIEF JOY," (Pslam 137:6); Jerusalem will be the habitation of the royal throne of Christ the Lord in the world to come. It is the capital of the Christian and Jewish world. A city the Devil himself will not cease wrestling for control of from God's people.
Praying toward Jerusalem began thousands of years ago. We find it written in Solomon's prophetic prayer where he said the Lord's people should pray "TOWARD THIS PLACE," "TOWARD THIS LAND", and "TOWARD THIS CITY." 2 Chronicles 6:19/6:38
And I suppose you could pray toward Israel, toward the temple Mount, and toward Jerusalem facing West; however the sun comes up in the East. So you would face East in the morning and West in the sunset praying and praising God for all his marvelous works while standing upright before him. But you certainly are welcome to choose other devotional positions.
The great mystery of godliness can be involved in every devotional position as we see in holy Scripture, but one of the reasons for standing before the LORD is the ability for the Lord's anointed to be "QUICKENED BY THE SPIRIT THAT DWELLS IN HIS MORTAL BODY" to not only know what the LORD is showing him to do in devotions, but also as the Lord sends him into the day directionally.
To stand before the LORD is not something to take lightly.
In a context regarding the fierceness of Leviathan, the LORD tells Job: "None is so fierce that dare stir him up: who then is able to stand before me?" (Job 41:10)

Make sure you know you are
talking to God and not to man. "Keep your foot when you go to the
house of God, and be more ready to hear, than to give the sacrifice
of fools: for they consider not that they do evil. Be not rash with
your mouth, and let not your heart be hasty to utter any thing
before God: for God is in heaven, and you upon earth: therefore
let your words be few." (Ecclesiastes 5:1/2)
