The Lord said to his disciples who were anointed to hear, "THE WORDS I SPEAK UNTO YOU, THEY ARE SPIRIT AND THEY ARE LIFE." (St John 6:63) Many suppose the written Word in their mouth is the same powerful will go forth with the same magnitude of power Christ spoke in, simply because it is called the Word of God.
In the written Word of God we find Christ perfectly quoted without evidence of the power he spoke in. The holy Book is provided so you can attain to his power to speak in him, but the written Word by itself is not the power. The power of God is resident in the Spirit of Christ.
The Word of God cannot be proclaimed in full power until the new man of the Spirit is built into the 30/60/or 100 fold anointing by those called to be disciples by Jesus personally. "And these are they which are sown on GOOD GROUND; such as hear the Word, and receive it, and bring forth fruit, some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some an hundred." (St. Mark 4:20)
In each of those three categories of the anointing, the marvelous works of God will shine forth; but the greater power is manifested in the hundred fold anointing of the Spirit. Moses, Joshua, Elijah, Elisha, Peter and Paul all manifested evidence of the hundred fold anointing. Peter and Paul both worked creative healing miracles on men lame from birth whose legs had never developed from lack of use; yet they were seen dancing on their newly formed limbs.
The supply of the Spirit for Saints to preach the Gospel manifests proportionately according to their obedience to the laws of the Spirit daily. Saint Paul wrote: "For I know that this shall turn to my salvation through your prayer, and THE SUPPLY OF THE SPIRIT OF JESUS CHRIST,according to my earnest expectation and my hope, that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but that with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether it be by life, or by death. For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain." (Philippians l:l9/21)
We live in a "REAP WHAT YOU SOW" world. God "ONLY HAS IMMORTALITY DWELLING IN HIM" (1 Timothy 6:16) The word "ONLY" puts it in the absolute. There is no man who will ever own the immortality of God. We must "PUT ON" the Lord Jesus Christ through complete obedience to the mysteries of God.
The sooner you get started in running the race set before you to "GROW UP INTO CHRIST" into a holy Life, the sooner you will make yourself ready to live in wisdom and enlightenment not only in this world but in the worlds to come. For the Word of God is eternal. The Word of God is as eternal as God is eternal.
What you have before you are many preaching insights to help you understand how to preach the Word of God effectively in the public as you build the Spirit of God within you as A DOER and not just a hearer of the Word of God.
Christ spoke "all things" into existence with his Word. (St. John 1:3) The Lord can be supernaturally casual as he was with Saint Peter when he told him to go catch a fish and open it to find a gold piece, and he can speak supernatural violence as many of the Resurrected will agree when they see the Lord consume AntiChrist with "the Spirit of his mouth" (2 Thessalonians 2:8) in the clouds of the second coming. You can be sure THE SWORD OF THE SPIRIT is not something you receive in the baptism of the holy Ghost or just by speaking the written Word of God. The newly saved believer has not yet fully read the Word of God from one end of the Bible to the other, so why would anyone suppose they had the sword of the Word in their mouth when reading the Bible out loud on a street corner or from behind a pulpit? Words coming out of the mouth of todays Christians are weak but, "HIS WORD IS QUICK AND POWERFUL AND SHARPER THAN ANY TWO EDGED SWORD, piercing even to the dividing in two of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow,..." (Hebrews 4:12) If Christians had SUPERNATURAL SPIRIT in their mouth, Christ would not need to return to the earth to consume Antichrist and take the world back. We would be a formidable people. The Word of God may come out of your mouth more quickly and powerfully than words you ordinarily speak, but don't let that deceive you into supposing you have the sword of the Spirit in your mouth. The Lord "makes his ministers A FLAMING FIRE." (Psalm 104:4b) The preaching of a holy person is greater than emotional oratory and great zeal alone. The Word preached is SPIRIT POWERED. Most preachers in the world of religion are unarmed to preach the Gospel in the Spirit of the Word. They gather listeners in the wisdom of this world in natural strength using "ENTICING WORDS OF MAN'S WISDOM" (1 Corinthians 2:4) and put on holy airs to deceive themselves and their listeners into believing they are God's ambassadors upon the earth. Most of the believers in the body of Christ worldwide have never heard power preaching. Since you will get little experience or encouragement inside the churches, it is important for you to go out into the harvest field of the public where you can get started speaking the Word of God from the written pages of the holy Book, the authorized King James Bible. If you have a spiritual experience preaching, don't get puffed over it or you will quench the Spirit. If you are one of those rare individuals who succeeds in building the sword of the Spirit, the Lord will open your eye to see into the unseen where his sword is manifest in your preaching. That will mean the sword of the Spirit is now stored up for you as a treasure in heaven for use in the world to come also.
The first and foremost spiritual tool in the toolbox of evangelism for every able bodied believer is their MOUTH. The sword of the Spirit is built in the mouth? Pour your whole heart, soul, mind and strength into declaring the written Word with as much skill and might as possible. It is written: "OPEN YOUR MOUTH WIDE AND I WILL FILL IT." (Psalm 81:10) This is a great mystery of godliness. God fills the mouth of Saints preaching the Gospel. The Word becomes Spirit. (St. John 6:63) But for those who are not yet fully sanctified (1 Thessalonians 5:23), there is but a little witness in the Spirit which the proud will boast of as though they had experienced the full power of God in their mouth. Avoid deceiving yourself and others. In the world to come many eyes will be open to see if there really is a sword of the Spirit in your mouth, and if there is none, what will you do? The Lord is our divine example: "And he had in his right hand seven stars: AND OUT OF HIS MOUTH WENT A SHARP TWO EDGED SWORD: and his countenance was as the sun shines in his strength." (Revelation l:l6)
Don't be discouraged when religious leaders refer to you as a street preacher. The public preacher has the ability to preach all day while religious leaders are limited to a few hours a week in their pulpits. Religious leaders would like to think they are way ahead in the race set before the Church. They have certificates hanging on the wall to prove it. But you have the advantage of being able to accelerate your spiritual growth by continually exercising the spirit in preaching, praise, and prayer, without the chains of religion. Thus it is written: "Many of the first shall be last, but the last shall be first." Let the religious leaders have the uppermost seats in the synagogues and honourable greetings in the doors of the Churches. Take your place in the public preaching forum. You'll be amazed to find out religious leaders are unskilful in public preaching. They are accustomed to passive audiences listening to them. You'll become expert in due season if you keep your hand on the plough of preaching in the harvest field. Don't measure your success by the number of missions or hours you've logged in preaching and witnessing, nor by how many souls you think you've won, nor by how many believers are following you, but by how much spirit you have built. Keep growing from glory to glory.
Power read the written Word in public, in gatherings, and in devotions to the best of your present ability in trying to get inside the Spirit of the Word by focusing on the meaning of each word as you read it. The witness of the Spirit should become greater as you grow from glory to glory up into Christ preaching his truth. One way to make sure corruption does not get into your message is to POWER READ while "hungering and thirsting after righteousness to be filled" to your fullest when you do. For "out of the belly shall come rivers of living waters" when your belly is not filled with food and your heart is not impure. Jesus said, "He that believes on him, as the Scripture has said, Out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water." (St. John 7:38) POWER READING is a sure way to avoid imperfections of human nature from quenching impromptu speaking. The Word of God is perfect, but few believers understand it perfectly. You may think you are ready to die for your convictions, but if you are growing up into Christ in total commitment, you will find within a few years you will not believe exactly what you thought you fully understood today. Avoid impromptu preaching until you are sure you understand the Word of God thoroughly. POWER READINGS allow you to focus on aspects of preaching other than the content of your message: Intonations, speed of delivery, volume, eye contact, bodily movement, gestures, and the very important skill of crowd control. The challenge of holding a crowd in public helps produce much sharper preaching than the controlled astmosphere of a religious meeting.
It is difficult for anyone to understand quotes from the old English in the sacred King James Bible. The Word should be quoted specifically from the sacred King James version changing the vintage use of thee, thou and thine as well as some of the other obsolete words without changing the divinely inspired phrasing, so your listeners can actually hear the infallable Word of God in our present day language. Any Bible might seem sufficient for a Christian but believers aspiring to be a Saint ought to learn to use the King James Bible now. The other versions do not properly communicate the things of the Spirit for an individual to enter into the power of God. They were written for vain glory and the love of money and are of little use in building the new man into oneness with God. They may work for partially committed general population of Christians, but for totally committed Saints, the other versions do more harm than good. It is also wise to learn to use Young's or Strong's concordance as a Bible Study help and verse finder. Young's is particularly good because the Greek and Hebrew is segregated right on the page.
You can stand on a crowded street corner reading or quoting Saint John Chapter one. If you have it memorized, your hands are free to hold the Bible in the air declaring: "In the beginning was the Word,...and the Word was with God,...and THE WORD WAS GOD. The same was in the beginning with God.... All things were made by him;... and without him was not anything made that was made... In Him was Life;... and the Life was the Light of men... the Light shines in darkness;... and the darkness comprehends it not." Pause briefly after speaking each phrase for it to sink into the ears of listeners and to get more air into your lungs to project the Word. (Chapters three and four of the book of Proverbs are particularly good for power readings in public. Wait until you come into the fullness of the power of God before using Chapter eight. It has oracles in it that might sound blasphemous, if its not Christ in you speaking his Word. Chapters five, six and seven of the book of Proverbs are good for preaching to lusty young men. Chapter one of the book of Genesis is always good reading for anyone lost or saved. Many of the Psalms are great for public readings. You might want to choose Psalm lO4 declaring joyfully: Bless the LORD,... O my soul,... O LORD my God,... you are very great;... you are clothed with honour and majesty... Who covers yourself with Light as with a garment... who stretches out the heavens like a curtain... Who lays the beams of his chambers in the waters... who makes the clouds his chariot... who walks upon the wings of the wind... Who makes his angels spirits... his ministers A FLAMING FIRE:" There are thirty five verses in Psalm lO4. Can you see how interesting it would be to POWER READ it to a captive audience at the end of a workday waiting in large crowds at the bus stops in the big cities? Listen for the rhythmic lines? The poetry in the images? The awesome insights into God? Compare the way these quotes are being given to you from the sacred King James so you'll also be able to modernize the language without changing the structure or meaning of the verses. Learn your Bible well and choose Scriptures you think will help you hold the attention of the class of people you are ministering to. It is all perfect.)
The anointing is earned by dying daily to self in the knowledge of the holy which is understanding. (Proverbs 9:lO) In his holy letter to the Saints and the faithful in Christ Jesus who were on the path to Sainthood, the Apostle said: "Put on the new man which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness." (Ephesians 4:24) This is not a suit of clothes hanging in the closets of religion like a robe priests put on to show themselves holy. It is not a faith claim. It is oneness with God through Christ who brings the fully committed believer filled with the Spirit into "one new man." (Ephesians 2:15) The problem religious minded believers have is their inability to accept the fact they are not already the new man. Novices wear their old man into the churches and leave thinking they are new. Someone told them so. Twenty years later they are the same. They haven't changed much since they bought the lie. Tossing a few vices aside does not make anyone into a new man. Traveling to a mission field as a missionary doesn't make anyone into a new man. Graduating from Seminary doesn't make anyone into a new man. Your intimates may be saying, "You are a new man. You changed so much we hardly know you." That's great! But you're not the new man of the Spirit until you're overflowing in THE LITERALLY DIVINE PRESENCE OF CHRIST. Anyone who thinks they have it all spiritually without purchasing gold tried in the fire, is not going to grow up into the infinitely divine nature of Christ. Too many Christians are pleased with themselves, but disciples ploughing the harvest field in "power and authority" (St. Luke 9:l) know at the end of a hard day's work they are "unprofitable servants." (St. Luke l7:l0) THE ANOINTING abiding within shows them all things. (l John 2:27) They measure their performance spiritually, but those who serve two masters are concerned with material gain and their love of this world and are easily pleased with themselves because they have lived up to their lessor commitment to the Lord and are measuring themselves by what they see others doing. It is common for Christians to claim promises meant for Saints without realizing how much of a price has to be paid to earn them.
Use sound speech according to the meaning God intended in every word, when he provided Holy Scripture for mankind. (Titus 1:8). Avoid using dogmatic meanings to Bible words. Avoid putting your own meanings to Bible words. You don't have to correct everyone's conversation. If someone says, "We have discipleship houses," You should immediately know they are not talking about Saint Luke Fourteen disciples. Refer to them as "workers," or "students" or "rehab's" as is the case for ministries housing released criminals. Some of them are not even saved, but Churches like to call them disciples. Learn to speak according to the meanings God gives words in the Bible. There are "many who corrupt the Word of God." (2 Corinthians 2:17) You'll be more effective if you're not one of them. You are the Church if you're saved. Buildings where God's people worship are not "the Church." When God is finished with his people, we will all be perfected IN CHRIST. Every Christian starts off as a child of God and as a spiritual babe in Christ. Accept it with humility. You cannot become a Son of God without walking as Christ, the Son of God, walked in his lifestyle of absolute poverty where nothing is owned and the focus is full time on spiritual empowerment. You'll understand the gospel much more effectively if you properly divide the Word between Christians and Saints, Jews and Gentiles, and the seen from the unseen. Many Christians assign the cross to every trial in their lives. It makes them seem spiritual to themselves and to others. But if you are using sound speech, you'll refer to their trials as trials. The cross of Christ is borne by the living sacrifice who must die daily to self to manifest the Spirit of the Lord in his service.
The Spirit of the Lord is not only able to inhabit the praises of his people, he is able to inhabit the mortal bodies of his Saints in the anointing, and he is able to inhabit pure thoughts. Therefore, "Whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things." (Philippians 4:8) When you are preaching the Gospel, make it a habit of thinking love for those to whom you are preaching. You will never get into the Spirit and power of preaching while thinking fleshy thoughts. Even if you are not in the power of God today, preach as one making ready to be in the power of God tomorrow.
Reproving hecklers can be useful to control a crowd if you do it righteously and fearlessly in the Spirit of truth. When a heckler first interupts your preaching message, you may feel irritated that anyone could be so rude; but its actually a positive opportunity if you handle it right. You can gain all the more power over your audience if you handle hecklers properly. Make sure you are armed with memorized reproofs for hecklers, so you can correct them firmly by speaking the truth in love: Look them in the eye without blinking. Tell them: "Don't be deceived by yourselves, God is not mocked: for whatever a man sows in this world, that, he will reap." (Galatians 6:7 OKJV Paraphrased) Tell them: "If you do evil, evil will come back on you." They wanted some attention, now you have given it to them. You've embarrassed them. They thought to knock you off balance and discovered you are armed with truth. Choose the right verse to fit the situation and it should work as a warning to the hecklers if you do it righteously. Turn your focus to the others as you continue preaching and if the hecklers continue, ignoring them may work now because you've already identified them as evildoers. Don't let opponents discourage you. It is far better to have a response than a crowd who won't take their eyes off of their newspapers. You are there to break them free from demonic oppression and to lead them from the darkness of human nature into the Light. Don't loose sight of your reason for being there by becoming offended or irritated. If you give the devil any ground, he'll use the hecklers to take your crowd from you. "Resist the devil and he will flee from you." (St. James 4:7)
Crowds have personalities like people. The crowds waiting for a parade in crowded bleachers are usually receptive, especially if they have a long wait before them. A crowd of students outdoors within the confines of a public school will instantly oppose preaching, and school officials are a terror to preachers. Keep your distance from the schools. Crowds rushing into a stadium to view a big league sports contest are usually in a hurry to get a good seat. If you catch them crossing over major intersections on foot outside of a stadium, that is the best time to preach to them. There is an interval of ten to twenty seconds where they are in your sight coming toward you. Make your preaching count. Sports contest crowds are usually well behaved toward preachers. You might have twenty five to fifty crowds of up to fifty crossing over before the rush is over. Cross over and wait for them. They'll come back the same way they came when the game is over. Then get ready for the next crowd at that intersection. Be careful you don't offend them if their team lost. Fans take sports seriously. Downtown in the big city multitudes crowding the sidewalks usually have an agenda and you were not on it. They are accustomed to walking by Bible thumpers, moderate Christians passing out tracts, sign holders and religious idiots. Choose your strategy with that in mind. Sidewalk preaching is usually ineffective in the big cities of America. If you want to find the ideal crowd in the big city, go to the bus stops at the end of the work day. Employers are indiscriminate about when they let workers off, so crowds are often heaped up at bus tops for fifteen to twenty minutes waiting for the right bus. They are a captive audience. They have nothing to do but listen. Preaching on the buses will usually get the preacher into trouble. Bus companies have policies. Bus drivers have telephones. They are obligated even if they are Christians, to call the police or they'll lose their job. Don't bother vendors who are waiting on customers or a man leaning over his car working on his engine. The vendor will think you are a nuisance interfering with his business, and the mechanic will be angered if you cause him to make a costly mistake or distract him from figuring out the problem he is working on. There are long streams of students walking home from most upper grade schools, but if you stand on the public sidewalk outside of a school and proclaim Christ, school officials will bring squad cars screaming. The best way to reach students is with amplification while driving by them out of sight of the schools. It is not advisable to get out of your vehicle to speak or to draw them into a crowd. And leave the little children walking home from school alone. They are not yet ready to make an adult decision and their parents and the police will not think well of you speaking to them.
There is another quencher of the Spirit that every witness should be aware of. It is rooted in pride and love for attention with a need for acceptance and recognition. Novice witnesses going out for the first time have not really thought everything through in regard to spiritual warfare, nor is everyone sufficiently introspective to perceive their own motives; so they tend to tell others what a great job they are doing for God. It's far better to remember your mistakes in an effort to grow in skill as a preacher and a witness. God humbles the presumptuous for exalting themselves. Set a guard against evil motives in your flesh. You ought to preach and witness to glorify God (l Corinthians 6:20) rather than yourself. "He who speaks of his own self seeks his own glory." (St. John 7:l8) But, Jesus made himself of "no reputation." (Philippians 2:7)
A witness might be doing their best for God, but God is able to do a better job through us when we are dead to self. There are those who preach the gospel in their own strength, and those who Preach the Gospel in the power of Christ. For those who preach in their own strength, God reaps where he has not sown; (St. Luke 19:21) but for those who Preach the Gospel in the power of Christ, the Master reaps where He has sown through vessels suitable for his use. Learn to GIVE HIM ALL THE HONOR for any good done in your labors in the harvest field. The Lord is the A and the Z, the Alpha and the Omega; the beginning and the end whether you are preaching in your own power or in his anointing.
There is a tendency among those preaching and witnessing to think it makes them holier than believers who are not there with them. Those who abstain may not be holy, but preaching and witnessing by itself doesn't necessarily make you a holy vessel suitable for the Master's use. The life a witness lives carries with him onto the battlefield of soulwinning. If a believer is a lover of this world, he will not be fully focused in sowing the Lord's Word. Even though you do not intend to lose your life for the Gospel, you ought to live an austere life observing the laws of the Spirit as much as possible. If you go into the harvest field to sow the good Word of God with a schedule full of things to do that day, you are going to have difficulty focusing on the things of the Spirit. The cares of this world choke out the fruit of the Spirit.
Man is naturally fearful but, "perfect love casts out all fear." You cannot be fearless in the warfare for souls until you have built the new man into the Galatians 5:22 perfected spiritual fruit of the anointing. Perfect love is right at the top of the list: "THE FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT IS LOVE, JOY, PEACE, LONGSUFFERING, GENTLENESS, GOODNESS, FAITH, MEEKNESS, TEMPERANCE: AGAINST SUCH THERE IS NO LAW. AND THEY THAT ARE CHRIST'S HAVE CRUCIFIED THE FLESH WITH THE AFFECTIONS AND LUSTS." Galatians 5:22/24 In the Lord's anointing, perfect virtue resides in the fearless kingdom of Love within. Mankind builds material kingdoms for themselves; but God invites you to build the internal spiritual kingdom of perfect Love where you shall reside in Peace forever free from fear. "Perfect love casts out fear." (l John 4:l8) Can you imagine how great it is to be free from the torments of fear? Get on the front lines preaching for God and face your fears.
Subliminal messaging has come of age in every imagineable form of communication in society. A subliminal message can be appear to be godly to the Christian while projecting a corrupt message; sometimes by ignorance, and at other times on purpose. The subliminal message is easier to identify than the motive of the originator. Here is an example of one that was seen in public in the midst of a huge multitude of people: It read "JESUS REPENT" from a distance where only larger words on the sign could be seen. Up close, where the entire message could be seen, the sign read: JESUS says REPENT, an earthquake is coming." If a pattern is established, you have found an antichrist. You'll note also, it's not prophetic to say an earthquake is coming without giving the time, place, location and magnitude. There is always an earthquake coming. So his motives were even more suspect. Here is another example of subliminal messaging: Many a novice has made the mistake of quoting Jesus verbatim on their sign saying, "Jesus said, I am the way, the truth and the Life." The sign bearer is not the way, the truth and the Life," but someone might think he's advertising himself as a god of this world. God Almighty is able to forgive such errors, but when someone does it on purpose; it is blasphemy. So be careful how you handle the Word of God. In the making of Gospel signs in any size, shape or form, make sure the message is properly understood close up and from afar off.
Preach the sacred Word free of charge. Any notion of collecting money compromises your delivery of the truth. "No man can serve two masters." If you are trying to please sinners so they'll throw a few coins into your collection container, you would do the Gospel a favor by becoming a secular entertainer instead of preaching. Likewise, if you are trying to please sinners so they'll buy your religious merchandise, you're in the wrong business. "What is my reward then? Verily that, when I preach the Gospel, I may make the Gospel of Christ without charge, that I abuse not my power" in it. (l Corinthians 9:l8)
For those who do not go into the harvest field with the intention of losing their life for the Gospel, there is also the fear of injury. Novices often have no idea of how much the wicked hate the Gospel of Jesus Christ til persecution arises. Newcomers to soulwinning are surprised to find out sinners in police uniforms abuse authority in their jurisdictions because they do not want to hear the Gospel. Lawless gangs suddenly appear in the midst of a crowd or in traffic threatening to do violence. Sometimes knives are brandished by the wicked. They have been known to use a vehicle as a weapon to run down a preacher. "Watch and pray." A God hater is capable of pushing a deadly flower pot from the window of a high building upon the head of a preacher below on the sidewalk. Mobs of drug crazed Satanic music fans are capable of surrounding witnesses in a concert parking lot. When a witness goes into a public restroom, be aware there is usually no backdoor. You are in a very dangerous space. Look for bulges on a man's person as he approaches you. There are any number of things he could hide behind his jacket. When someone invites you to join them for a ride in their vehicle, don't take them up on their offer. If you want to be fearless, you must be willing to die for the Gospel today. You are living in an evil world, but most Christians are not fully aware of it until they try to steal souls from the Devil grasp. Then the war is on.
The wicked are dangerous adversaries with their tongues and in every way. Here is the counsel of God in the Scriptures to his servants and workers: "I said, I will take heed to my ways, that I sin not with my tongue: I will keep my mouth with a bridle, while the wicked is before me." (Psalm 39:l) The wicked come in every size, shape and occupation. When they come, it is not for love or for peace, but there is no law against the fruit of the Spirit. (Galatians 5:22) Bridle your tongue and answer them in the fruit of the Spirit of love, joy, peace and faith wisely. Whether it be those in authority or not, the wicked are the most dangerous breed of sinners. They are those committed to wickedness, to getting away with evil continually. When you discern the wicked before you, they mean you no good. Keep it as brief as possible and move on.
There are many SODOMITES hiding perversions behind religion. Be careful in dealing with Sodomites. Some of them have become reprobate "being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, MURDER, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, WITHOUT UNDERSTANDING, covenant breakers, without natural affection, implacable, UNMERCIFUL: who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them." Romans 1:29/32 You have just read the definition of a REPROBATE. You cannot reason with them any more than Lot could when SODOMITES were outside his door in a mob demanding his guests come out to them. Reprobates are WITHOUT SPIRITUAL UNDERSTANDING. They are capable of MURDER if they think they can get away with it. There are SODOMITE parades in West Hollywood, San Francisco and other big cities annually. It is very dangerous to preach them alone as well as in a group. SODOMITES usually will not accept a recognizable gospel tract. Signs are better in a secured zone. Messages like "God made Adam for Eve, not Steve," are not advisable. Put the Word of God on your signs. The Word does not return void. Be careful if you are using a hand held amp to not stampeed them into a mob against your group. They are easily provoked and ruthlessly violent if they get their hands on you. SODOMITE parades are not good fishing nor is it a good place for a novice to start, neither is it wise to amp their clubs from your car in stopped traffic where they can rush into traffic and surround you. We are sent to the poor and the meek, (Isaiah 6l:1)(St. John l7:l8)not to the wicked. If you think to turn wicked Sodomites back with preaching, you are mistaken. It is very rare for an entrenched Sodomite to come to the Lord. If you must find out for yourself, keep your group together. Move as a unit in Sodomite territory. Stay out of their bars and their residences. Go home when the sun sets.
When confronted by troublemakers, it is a mistake to pull out a telephone to call for help. Troublemakers think you are calling in the police or militant friends. They are threatened and might attack to stop you from making the call. The better way to handle troublemakers is to look them in the eye without blinking or showing fear just like you should learn to look an overly aggressive dog in the eye without blinking. Use firm words in responding to them, keeping in mind that a soft answer turns away wrath. (Proverbs l5:l) By not taking your focus off of them, you can hope to diffuse their aggressiveness without losing your composure. Troublemakers are like ferocious barking dogs. They fear to attack anyone who is looking them in the eye unmoved by their threatenings.
There is a built in obligation in group participation. It is your duty to be watchful for the safety of the others. It is a command in holy Scripture to "watch and pray." In other words, God desires prayers suitable to the present situation. He wants prayers situated in an awareness of what is going on. In public preaching where the Gospel message is proclaimed to crowds, many of them are dangerously unruly especially at Satanic rock concerts where it is wise to have several determined brethren standing between the preacher and the crowd to guard against their moving in too close with hostile intentions. You'll need the Lord to help you guard the preaching of his Word. "Except the LORD keeps the city, the watchman awakens in vain." Except the Lord keeps the preaching, security efforts are in vain. Instant mobs are capable of attacking at drug infested Satanic rock and racially biased rap concerts. Black ghettos in places like Watts and Compton are exceedingly dangerous for other races to attempt to preach and witness in on foot. Even the police are afraid to venture in after dark in such places like skid row in downtown Los Angeles after dark.
"Two are better than one, and a threefold chord is not easily broken." (Eccl. 4:l2) There is strength of confidence in a group. The Lord sent out disciples by two's knowing "two is better than one." Group strength in a well disciplined team can calm some of the inhibitions and fears already discussed. Witnessing with a well disciplined group can help lusty individuals control their eyes. It can help the easily distracted become focused. It can help lovers of this world focus on the love of God. If the group is not unruly, but is disciplined to witness with integrity and maturity; the newcomer has a good example to follow, but an unruly and undisciplined crowd of witnesses is of little use to you or the Gospel. It is not so hard to arise to the occasion to return to the harvest field when others are encouraging and earnestly concerned for the lost. "He that walks with wise men shall be wise, but a companion of fools shall be destroyed." (Proverbs l3:20) A crowd of witnesses is not always more effective than one man, however; "there is no restraint by the Lord to save by many or by few." (l Samuel l4:6)
One of the most evident FEARS is a concern of what others think about you. What will my friends think? What will my parent's say? My girlfriend will probably think I've become a fanatic. If my employer finds out, he might not promote me. These concerns cause some to stay away. Others bring such inhibitions with them when they are witnessing in public, they look for ways to do the work without becoming a spectacle. (1 Corinthians 4:9) You can't maximize spiritual power by minimizing your effort in preaching and witnessing. Do that which you do with all your heart, soul, mind and strength. Preaching to please sinners in the hopes of their coming to the Lord is a mistake. We are not to offend, neither are we to compromise truth. Your duty in preaching and witnessing is to utter truth and let the Word of God do its job. It will not return void.
Many have an attitude stopping them from` witnessing in a right way. Avoid thinking you're doing God a favor by going into the harvest field. God Almighty can live without you, but you cannot live without Him. The Lord loves his people but he also see's even his Saints as UNPROFITABLE SERVANTS at the end of a days work in the harvest field. You may have led a few people to the Lord or perhaps you've developed a unique witnessing tool of some kind, or maybe you're one of those show-offs who is covered with buttons and pins, but no man comes to Jesus unless the Father draws Him. (St. John 6:44) God is the winner of every soul. So why should anyone be puffed up with self importance for having seen God work? Be more concerned to examine your labors carefully to see how many more souls could have come to the Lord had you done better.
Many a group of zealots came together with the most wonderful Christian intentions to grow spiritually and lead the lost to salvation, but someone with a different spirit pridefully decides they would prefer to hold court and qualify the witnessing leader. The fear of becoming a cult member is no excuse for rebellion against mature leadership. You have just as much duty to discern a spiritual leader as you do to discern a cult leader, but an evangelistic mission is not the place to hold court. "OBEY THEM THAT HAVE THE RULE OVER YOU, AND SUBMIT YOURSELVES: FOR THEY WATCH FOR YOUR SOULS, AS THEY THAT MUST GIVE ACCOUNT, THAT THEY MAY DO IT WITH JOY, AND NOT WITH GRIEF: FOR THAT IS UNPROFITABLE FOR YOU." (Hebrews 13:17) A puffed up novice is a miserable companion on an evangelistic mission. "Therefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:" (St. James l:l9) You've got a lot more to learn than you can imagine.
You can be sure a conversation is going to go bad when a Christian sees you preaching and witnessing and stops to talk. Had they grabbed a handful of literature and joined in, that would have been different. If they want your name, phone number and address, tell them you will be glad for them to leave their contact information. Don't waste valuable preaching time to write down your contact info. In 99% of such contacts you'll never hear from them again. It is common for Christians who don't witness themselves, to stop and hold vain conversations with the Lord's witnesses to make themselves feel a part of the work. Once they have comforted themselves, you will be surprised to find them judging whether or not you are qualified to represent the Gospel. Many of them will want to know if you are rooted and grounded in the church, but we are to be rooted and grouned in Christ (Colossians 2:7) according to the Word of God. I know this doesn't sound like good advice, but you will have to avoid Christians who stop the work you are doing to fellowship. Think about it! They aren't doing the hard work of preaching and witnessing and are willing to stop you. Just what God needs. Every believer in the world standing around talking while millions fall into hell daily. If you want respect as a preacher, you need to learn to act like one! Humbly continue the work with a few kind words to believers who stop to talk. We are not to offend the church, neither are we to become lukewarm like so many of them.
Groups have their own personalities formed by on going concensus and practices. One thing you will want to avoid if you wish to be effective in witnessing and preaching; is the tendency for groups to deteour their energies into fellowship. If one of the individuals is asked about it, they'll usually act a little offended saying: "We are fellowshiping. That is Biblical."
If that is true, why not stay home and fellowship? Unnecessary phone calls can be just as bad though it seems fashionable to America. Avoid phone calls on an evangelistic mission unless it is absolutely necessary.
The Lord would have us know the difference between correcting a sinner caught sinning and condemning the lost for being sinners. A firm reproof works when someone is caught sinning, and a call to repentance covers all the sins the lost have ever committed. There are also times when it is not wise to correct sinners caught in sin. There is a time and place for everything. Make sure it's workable before you try to reprove someone. You are to never condemn a sinner for being a sinner, yet there are those preachers of condemnation who do. Calling them to repentance is a solemn duty. Reproving a sinner for sinning is different. Suppose a crowd has gathered and a liar cries out with foul speeches against your message with another agreeing with him. Now, you are about to lose the attention of your crowd when it is still in your power to demonstrate the righteousness of your Spirit. Look the individual in the eye who agreed with the foul mouthed liar and rebuke him with a sharp rebuke; saying: "A wicked doer pays attention to false lips; and a liar gives ear to a foul mouth." (Proverbs l7:4) Now, go back to the crowd with your preaching. If the rebuke took, the heckler should be pacified and the crowd more attentive than ever. The purpose of a sharp rebuke is not necessarily to win the wicked fellow, but to subdue him temporarily so you can finish your message. "An evil man seeks only rebellion,..." (Proverbs l7:ll) so there is not much that can be done for the wicked. It's rare for that classification to repent.
It is not uncommon for a grieved sinner to come to witnesses in public for relief from their grief. There are two kinds of sorrows: One is godly sorrow that leads to repentance. The other is the sorrow of this world which leads to death,(2 Corinthians 7:lO) such as sinners experience when financial fortunes or relationships suddenly fail or they find themselves in legal trouble or in bad health. If your preaching and witnessing is empowered by the Spirit of God, you should find some who are sorrowing for their sins and need you to lead them to the spiritual comforts of salvation. But most of the time, when sorrow is found in a sinner, it is the sorrow of this world which can be turned to repentance if you are careful to guide them to the Comforter. To comfort sinners in their sins is a big mistake, if that is all you do. Certainly you are to feel their pain, and even weep with those who weep; but if you stop there, you are doing them a great evil. Preach repentance to those in grief in a solemn way, but do not be afraid to firmly tell them what they need to do. Guide them to the Lord for their relief. Let them know they can come out of their sorrows into the joy of the Lord. Tell them he is able to give a repentant sinner the peace that passes all understanding.
Sinners will ask you to pray for them because they have no spirit of prayer like you and are hoping you can get them some relief from the heavy weight of their sins on their soul. Novice witnesses love to take the side of sinners. A sinner might say, "I have really tried, and cannot seem to break through to God." Oh, do tell, God is such a hard heart, he will not hear this poor sinner? So what does the novice do? He tells the sinner. "Do what you can, and God will save you." Now, the sinner goes away thinking it is God who will come to him. Meanwhile, he is free to go on in his pursuit of the pleasures of sin. Horrible. You have just sent that sinner to hell. In another situation, the novice encounters sinners asking for prayer, so he prays: "Lord, have mercy on these lost souls." Fine. Now what is God supposed to do? They are supposed to repent, and you have asked God to give them mercy? The next thing you know they'll be tares among the wheat in Church corrupting the flock.
Why couldn't you take command of the situation and tell them, they can repent for their sins before God and you'll back their prayers up right on the spot?
Another sinner comes by saying he has been trying to serve God all along. Really. When he repents, he will have no problem serving God. If you fall for his tricks, you'll encourage him in his sins by telling him to keep trying. "Wise men win souls." Let him know hell is full of good intentions. If you are ever going to become a preacher manifest in Christ, you will not comfort sinners in their sins nor pray their prayers for them.
One of the tools of evangelism is language skills. You do not need to learn a language completely, but every witness should arm themselves with preaching and witnessing phrases in Spanish because they are everywhere intermingled in the population. You should be able to speak in one language after another as you recognize the nationality of people within range. The Mexican migrants are one of "the poor and the meek" populations Christ sends his workers too: Here is how you can say, (1) "You need God in your life." "Necesitas a Dios en tu vida." (Speaking to more than one.) You need God in your lives." "Necesitas a Dios en sus vidas." (2) "Christ is the way." "Cristo es el camino." (3) "Christ died for our sins." "Cristo muere para nuestra pecadores." (4) "The blood of Christ cleanses." "La sangre limpia de Cristo." (5) Christ is our hope for eternal Life." "Cristo es nuestra esperanza para la vida eterna." (6) "Don't wait any longer." "No espera te' mas!" (7) "Pray to God in the name of Christ." "Tiene oracion in nombre de Cristo con Dios." You can use these phrases separately or all together in a preaching message. The migrants are very oppressed but they love it when native Americans speak to them in their own language. They are also very willing to enter into prayer, so don't be afraid to ask them: "Are you ready to pray?" "Listo para oracion?" If you're not skillful in Spanish, go ahead and pray over them in English, then sign it in "the name of Christ." "In nombre de Cristo." Amen. It's very important to emphasize the signing of prayers in the name of Christ with migrant Mexicans. Their Catholic experience includes prayers to the saints and to Mary. So make sure they hear your prayer signature.
Amplification has its benefits, but it one of many carnal weapons in evangelism. Anyone who does not want to vocalize the gospel usually chooses TRACTS or SIGNS and some know how to carry BANNERS which are larger and can be seen by more people. There are WITNESSING HATS, SHIRTS, and COATS. Putting a verse on a decent looking vehicle works real good. You can use permanent professionally made vinyl lettering from a sign-maker shop or you can have them make up MAGNETIC SIGNS which will be stolen if you don't take them off when the vehicle is parked. These are all carnal weapons of spiritual warfare. Using them does not make spiritual, but using them does get you started sowing the Word of God. If you can see your choice of weapons for evangelism, they are carnal. They are not made of Spirit. So why should you boast as though they make you spiritual? If you use Gospel tools in your possession to the best of your present ability, you can expect to grow spiritually. If you boast of the things you are doing for God, you'll stunt your own spiritual growth.
What did witnesses do before the printing press? The technological Age has ushered in all sorts of carnal weapons of spiritual warfare that were not in use in the ministry of Christ. Interesting isn't when you consider whether or not you will be empowered by the Spirit of the Lord to hand out tracts or stuff them in mailboxes. The kingdom is within, invisible; but tracts are outside and are made of visible material. No-one is empowered by them, neither do they in themselves transmit the power of the Spirit such as the Word spoken by an anointed messenger of God. The Preacher whom God sends can in truth say: "The words I speak unto you, they are Spirit, and they are Life." (St. John 6:63) But the witness passing out tracts cannot say in truth, "The tracts I am giving you, they are Spirit, and they are Life." Yet Christians all over the world are inclined to the use of tracts, booklets, and flyers. Why? First of all, it relieves them from the difficulty of the warfare of preaching. Secondly, it makes them feel like their mission is accomplished if they put their material in someone's hand or in a mail box. This is an inferior form of seed planting. It produces inferior results. It does little to build the Spirit of Christ in the user and it lacks the spiritual impact of power preaching. Yet, those who use tracts as well as those who send them, are easily puffed up over their use. Why? They are looking upon the appearance of things. How many tons produced. How much money spent. How many were handed out. Tracts are on the carnal side of the Gospel. There is much higher ground to learn to walk on. Much greater effectiveness to attain to.
There are some exotic tools in the visible evangelistic toolbox. AIRPLANE BANNERS are one, and BILLBOARDS are another for those who can afford them. Many church leaders entrusted with the Lord's finances are going to be sorry they didn't glorify the Word of God on a billboard as well as on their church vehicles. A localized billboard in the cities costs about a thousand dollars a month after initial set up costs. A freeway billboard is much more effective. For those who are financially poor, you might be able to have a canvas the size of the billboard made up and hung. It's yours for use again and will save you set up costs. "Let your words be few." Smaller messages allow for larger lettering. Choose a verse or phrase from the holy Book and keep the billboard free from merchandising or advertising. How can you expect sinners to respond to the Word of God while you're trying to sell them something or get them to come to your church meetings? If you are going to set up the Word of God on a billboard, you might consider the selection of Scriptures in the "FREE POSTERS" link on this web site. Understand your billboard layout is laid out more like an 8 l/2 x ll piece of paper turned sideways instead of straight up like a poster design, but the design idea is the same. Nice easy to read lettering filling the canvas preferably in two or three colors. It is the perfect ministry for someone who is in business and can't afford the time to work the harvest field personally.
There is much confusion between the clever sayings we see on Christian bumper stickers and the sowing of the Word of God. The Apostle Paul warned against preaching enticing words of men's wisdom. (1 Corinthians 2:4) Holy Scripture does not say: "Bumper stickers are quick and sharp and powerful like a two edged sword..." But many Christians seem to think so. One of the bumper stickers in common use says: "IT IS HELL WITHOUT JESUS." Can you see why it is not quick and sharp and powerful like a two edged sword? It's a sword with a blunted edge. When you think about it, it's not hell in this world without Jesus. Sinners actually enjoy sin. Another bumper sticker says: "Know Jesus, know peace. NO JESUS, NO PEACE." Think about it. Sinners have the peace this world gives. Christ said so. Sow the good Word of God. It is perfect truth. "REAL MEN LOVE JESUS," is another often used bumper sticker. It suggests a man has to be a Christian to be a man. Some of the greatest men in history were sinners. Great soldiers, political leaders, atheletes, singers, architects, scientists, inventors, artists etc. It's not wise to name them. God is their judge. But some of them were braver, wiser, stronger and more disciplined than you who have the revelation of Christ to encourage your faith and hope for salvation. Some of the characteristics they possessed are values Christ would have every Christian build to be like him who is "all in all." How is it your bumper sticker suggests sinners are not men??? "God has called the foolish to confound the wise," and those foolish bumper stickers are doing a wonderful job of confounding them. If you're a man, you don't need to boast about it. You're probably a better man because of faith and obedience to Christ, and simply did not consider the offensiveness of the bumper sticker. If it was the Word of God, it would not return void. If it remains; perhaps some mighty fellow will decide to show you he is a man. Is that the effect you intend to have on sinners?
It is easier for a disciple to walk in the Spirit than to drive or ride in Him. Christ our example could have harnessed a team of white horses with a gold and silver chariot to ride about proclaiming the Gospel, but our Divine example walked as much as possible to demonstrate the preferable lifestyle for those who desire to become vessels suitable for the Master's use. He could have had his disciples carry him about like rich men and princes did in those days, but he chose to walk in the garments of poverty. It makes little difference if a Christian rides in a vehicle to preach the gospel, but those who are called to be Saints are attempting to build the supernatural nature of Christ Jesus fully within themselves, and ought not to the substitute devices of man to do the work they are supposed to be doing in the Spirit.
One of the virtues of Christ developed in preaching is discernment. Active witnesses and preachers are constantly in need of discerning whether someone is saved or lost, living true to the faith or compromising, doing righteously or as an angel of light hiding wickedness behind worldly wisdom. You should ultimately be able to discern someone's charactor within moments of encountering them. A good question to ask if you're not sure is: "DO YOU KNOW WHO JESUS IS?" The question is subtle. You are asking if they know the Lord's blueprint. Everyone will say yes with few exceptions, so you're in a win/win situation. (You've avoided a negative response and you have them talking about Jesus.) If you listen carefully to the way they answer, you should know whether they are saved or lost in their sins. The Christian should respond with evident joy. The hardened sinner might say something with an air of indifference like: "Yea, sure; I know who Jesus is." Now, you've got the sinner talking. Ask him, "WHO IS JESUS TO YOU?" He'll not be able to answer skillfully. When he's done, you'll know more about him. You might want to show him Galatians 5:22. The totality of the perfect fruit of the Spirit is the Lord. You can show him Hebrews 4:12. The Lord is the Word, (St. John 1:1) "quick and powerful and sharper than any two edged sword..." It is by the sword of the Spirit in the Lord's mouth that he destroys the coming world emperor, Antichrist. Tell the sinner the Lord is the A and the Z, the beginning and the end, the Alpha and the Omega." "All things were made by him, and without Him there was nothing made that was made." What is the advantage in having a trademark question that is well exercised? It allows you to take control of conversations that are getting out of hand, and this particular question allows you to qualify whether someone is saved or lost when you are confused about them. That's the advantage. You should become increasingly skillful in discerning who a person is regardless of what trademark question you use, if you use it often.
Every Christian seems to be saying God loves the sinner but hates the sin. If God loves sinners, why does he burn them perpetually in the fires of hell? God makes it very clear in holy Scripture through Christ, when he finds a tree not bearing fruit, he will burn that tree.
God provided the blood of Christ for sinners to turn from their evil ways and be washed clean for a fresh start in life. Do you know why the "JESUS LOVES YOU" slogan has become so popular? It's persecution proof. It's particularly popular on Church buildings and advertisements for the public to come to congregational meetings for the vainglory and prosperity of religious leaders. What is the result? Sinners are sitting in congregations in their sins because someone told them: "JESUS LOVES YOU." It's become a common greeting. Those who are saying it, are telling saved and lost alike that God is happy with the way they are. God made himself clear in holy Scripture when the Lord said: "Be holy as I am holy.". "Be perfect as my Father in heaven is perfect." There are a lot of mature people in the world but few spiritually perfect holy men.
Was the church in Germany preaching "JESUS LOVES YOU" when Hitler came into power? Imagine it. Hitler sitting with his staff of elite executioners telling them. "We don't need prayer boys. JESUS LOVES YOU. Today we are going to make a better world by eradicating the Jews from the planet earth." The wicked don't have anything to worry about as long as someone continues to tell them, JESUS LOVES YOU.
The bottom line is written: "God hates workers of iniquity." (Psalm 5:5) "Jacob I loved, Esau I hated." God said. (Romans 9:l3) God is capable of hate. Get rid of the idea God is incapable of hate. If you are not working out your salvation in fear and trembling, (Philippians 2:l2) you are disrespectful of his all-powerfulness and infinite understanding. "The fear of God is the beginning of wisdom." (Proverbs 9:lO) You are doing sinners great harm in telling them Jesus loves them. Tell them the truth? He hates the sinful.
When you witness or preach to a sinner in the LOVE OF GOD, you are not to condemn them; neither are you to approve of them so they go away happy in their sins. Follow the example of the apostles "warning every man." (Colossians 1:28) There are many verbal strategies: Fishermen bait their hooks and hunters bring plenty of ammunition for the hunt. Choose your message and research it if you wish to preach effectively in the public: Too many novices show up in the harvest without any spiritual ammo or bait and wonder why they can't get good results. Salvation is a creative process. Look for what God is doing. One comes to the Lord because they are fascinated with the prophecies, another loves the virtue of Christ, another is intrigued with his demonstrations of power, another with the adventures of holy men, another with their Jewish culture, another with the literary skills of the writers of holy Scripture and another may be listening because they are simply attracted to you. Still others may be responding to something you said to them in your message and a wise man will hear it with the hearing ear. Let's say a musician heard you singing in public. It's reasonable to suppose the goodness of God's music is being used by the Spirit of the Lord to draw them into salvation. It's time to let the musician know the Spirit of the Lord makes songs beautify when we are using perfect language. And where is perfect language found? In Psalms specifically, but sometimes in hymns and spiritual songs. You are suggesting he trade in impure music practices for pure ones. You are explaining to him how to repent where you have found a desire in him to do it.
We are also not called to go into all the world and politically protest. This doesn't mean you should disown your brethren in Operation Rescue or Save America or any of the other Christian organizations protesting evil national behaviour. Political protests lead to violence. Fringe elements are attracted to them for their own agenda's. Violence results. Abortion protests had America so intense at times, the nation was impregnated with civil war pains. Fortunately civil war was not conceived. There is no doubt abortion is wicked and wrong. If abortion groups had used the same energy and resources to get Christians elected to legislate Wade v/s Doe from the law, the killing of babies in the womb would have been minimized long ago. "When the righteous reign, the people rejoice." The gunning down of abortion doctors has gotten the Gospel some real bad press. Protesting is not a substitute for preaching
Of all the religions in the world, faith in Christ involves the recognition of our evil flesh nature and the need for continual repentance. Other religions are unregenerative. There may be many good intentioned folk joining them, but only a growing faith in Christ in God's holy Word can change an evildoer into a righteous man. Other religions prosper because they offer a system of outward behaviour for membership. The Jehovah Witnesses will have a sinner put on a suit and tie as though it were the blood of Christ washing them clean, and will send them out in two's with briefcases so they conform to the world when we are not to confirm to the world. The Mormons put young men on bycycles for two years recruiting sinners into their dead religion. The Muslims will have you put your face to the ground five times a day in the appearance of prayers which they use to justify themselves, but God Almighty does not hear prayers from sinners who have NOT come to Him in repentance. Many of them were born into their religions. The Hindu's think its a holy thing to chant to their gods. A practice that has many of them demon possessed. (Deuteronomy 32:7) Many were born into their religions. Many join a religion because of the need for acceptance in some group or culture. And many choose a religion as a covering for their conscience. You are not preaching religion, you are preaching a growing faith in Christ. Religion is not the way, truth and Life. Christ is.
We are not called to preach condemnation. There is a tendency among novices in particular, to emphasis the existence of sin with the idea of bringing sinners under conviction. Would it surprise you to know sinners know they are living in sin, and they love it. That's why they chose to do it. Your attempts to define sin to them as if they did not know they were living in sin, will have little success. Naming sins is a negative approach to preaching. Sure, Jesus preached saying, "Repent, the kingdom of God is at hand." The word "hand" had special meaning to the Israelites. In those days, they still remembered the prophets of old had stretched out their hands in the working of miracles. Jesus soon backed up his proclamation with his hand. Since you're not Jesus, nor full of him yet; why not consider using what will work for you. The Lord said, "Condemn not." Get your preaching onto a positive note. Let the sinners know you have something they need.
PREACH THE UNSEARCHABLE RICHES OF CHRIST:(Ephesians 3:8), "Unspeakable joy," "peace that passes all understanding," the gentleness of Christ that made David great (Psalm l8:35), the faith to move mountains (St. Matthew l7:20), the patience to endure all things (l Corinthians l3), the goodness of God that leads to repentance (Romans 2:4), the perfect temperance for self control in everything (l Corinthians 9:25), the perfect focus in singleness of eye to see into the unseen (St. Matthew 6:22), and to enjoy the things God has prepared spiritually for those who love him. (l Corinthians 2:9) Let the lost know that you are not just following the divine Person of Christ. You are growing up into his divine nature. PREACH CHRIST CRUCIFIED: (1 Corinthians 1:23), "If you will be perfect, go and sell that you have, and give to the poor, and you shall have treasure in heaven: and come and follow" Jesus. (St. Matthew l9:2l) "For it became him, for whom are all lthings, and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings." (Hebrews 2:lO) "Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me." (St. Mark 8:34)
PREACH THE GOSPEL OF THE KINGDOM: (Saint Matthew 9:35). (The kingdom is the anointing of Christ within his Saints.) No-one looking back is fit for "the kingdom of God." (St. Luke 9:62) "The kingdom of God comes not with observation." (St. Luke l7:20) "The kingdom of God is not in word but in power." (l Corinthians 4:20) "Seek first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you." (St. Matthew 6:33) "The kingdom is within." (St. Luke l7:2l) To his disciples, Jesus says: "Unto you it is given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God:" (Sst. Mark 4:ll)
PREACH THE GOOD NEWS: (Saint Luke 8:1) The good news that sinners can become like Jesus Christ by ultimately putting on his divine nature. The good news that they do not have to live in the spiritual darkness of their sins, but can come into his marvelous light. The good news that God is ready to forgive their sins right now. The good news that they can come into a much better understanding of reality. The good news they can obtain eternal Life.
PREACH THE WORD: (Acts 8:4). "His Word is healing to all your flesh." (Proverbs 4:20/22) His Word is "quick and powerful and sharper than any two edged sword..." (Hebrews 4:l2) "His Word is Spirit." (St. John 6:63) "The Word was made flesh." (St. John l:l4) "The Word was God." (St. John l:l) That the heavens and the earth are kept in store by the Word of God. (Ref. 2 Peter 3:7) That in those who keep his Word "is the love of God perfected..." (l John 2:5)
PREACH PEACE BY JESUS CHRIST: (Acts10:36), "...to be spiritually minded is Life and Peace." (Romans 8:6) "We have peace with god through our Lord Jesus Christ." (Romans 5:l) "How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the Gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!" (Romans l0:l5) "He is our peace." (Ephesians 2:l4) When the flesh and the Spirit of the Lord are brought into "one new man," there is perfect peace." (Ephesians 2:l5) "The peace of God that passes all understanding." (Philippians 4:l7) "Follow peace with all men." (Hebrews l2:l4)
PREACH CHRIST: (Acts 8:5). "Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me," Jesus said. (St. Matthew ll:29) You cannot do one without the other. (Gospel Light is earned through obedience to the Spirit of the Lord.) He is the Spirit of his Word (St. John 6:63), the divine way, truth and Light. (St. John l4:6) Christ is the Spirit in holy men you read about in the Bible. The ways of the Apostle were in Christ. (l Corinthians 4:l7) Christ is "the power of God."(l Corinthians l:24) Holy men of the Bible always "triumph in Christ." (2 Corinthians 2:l4) Christ speaks in holy men. (2 Corinthians l3:3) Christ is "the Creator." (St.John l:l0)(Ephesians 3:9) Christ is our passover sacrifice. (l Corinthians 5:7) "Christ died for our sins." (l Corinthains l5:3) Holy Communion is through "the blood of Christ." (l Corinthians l0:l6) "The head of every man is Christ." (l Corinthians ll:3)"IN CHRIST shall all be made alive." (l Corinthians l5:22) "Life is hid with Christ in God." (Colossians 3:3b) Christ "strengthens" his servants in the anointing. (Philippians 4:l3) There are "heavenly places in Christ." (Ephesians l:3) (2:6) Every believer is ultimately made perfect in Christ Jesus. (Ref.Colossians l:28)
PREACH THE WORD OF FAITH: (Romans 10:8), "There is Life and death in the mouth." (Proverbs l8:2l) (Good or evil, faith or fear, love or hate.) A believer grows from "faith to faith." (Romans l:l7) (2 Thessalonians l:3) The heart is purified increasingly by growing faith. (Acts l5:9) "Faith comes by hearing." (Romans l0:l7) "Whatsoever that is not of faith is sin." (Romans l4:23) Faith is made of Spirit. (2 Corinthians l4:l3) (Galatians 5:22) We are to learn to walk by faith and not by sight. (2 Corinthians 5:7) "The just shall live by faith." (Galatians 3:ll) There is only "one faith." (Ephesians 4:5) There are some whose faith has died. (2 Thessalonians 3:2) (St. James 2:20) There are some whose faith is shipwrecked. (l Timothy l:l9)(2 Timothy 2:l8) Faith is a mystery. (l Timothy 3:) Faith allows up to hope beyond this life and beyond the natural to the supernatural Life in Christ. (Hebrews ll:l) By strong faith in the anointing, kingdoms can be subdued. (Hebrews ll:33) Christ is the Author and finisher of our faith. (Hebrews l2:2) Faith is perfected by good works for God. (St. James 2:22) It is by faith that we are to overcome the world. (l John 5:4) "Without faith, it is impossible to please God." (Hebrews ll:6)
PREACH DELIVERANCE TO THE CAPTIVES: (Saint Luke 4:18). The Devil takes people captive at his will, (Ref. 2 Timothy 2:26) and they do not perceive it. Every sinner is a captive of their own sins. They are dead in sins. (Romans 8:l0) (Ephesians 2:l) "You shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free." (St. John 8:32) The devil has power to cast men into prison. (Revelation 2:l0) It is the Lord who frees the prisoners from prisons and from spiritual darkness. (Psalm l46:7) (Isaiah 42:7) (Isaiah 49:9)
PREACH THE FORGIVENESS OF SINS: (Acts 13:38) Christ is the divine sacrifice for our sins. (l Corinthians l5:3) God will not forgive our sins unless we forgive the sins of others. (St. Matthew 6:l4/l5) If your brother in the Lord repents of sinning against you, you are to forgive him. (St. Luke l7:3) If you forgive your brother, God forgives him also. (2 Corinthians 2:l0) God is "faithful and just" to forgive our sins if we repent of them. (l John l:9)
PREACH THE RESURRECTION: (Acts 4:2), (We are not only caught up to the clouds in the resurrection, but we are changed in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye." (l Corinthians l5:5l/52) The body of Christ shall be raised on "the last day." (St. John ll:24) Christ is the resurrection and the Life. (St. John ll:25) Faith is needed to believe in a resurrection. (Acts 23:8) Martyrs shall be raised in the likeness of Christ. (Romans 6:5) There are two resurrections, one of the saved; and one of the lost. (Revelation 20:5/6)(St. John 5:29)
PREACH RIGHTEOUSNESS: (Psalm 40:9) Righteousness is not as easy to understand as many would like to think. (Proverbs 2:9) (Psalm 85:ll) "Righteousness shall look down from heaven." "Righteousness and judgment" are the habitation of God's throne. (Psalm 97:2) Righteousness is a spiritual gate. (Psalm ll8:l9) To be righteous, the devout need to be moved by God, and obediently move in Him. (Psalm ll9:40) Righteousness is the Spirit of the anointing clothing God's servants. (Pslam l32:9) Righteousness is the Spirit that guides "the perfect." (Proverbs ll:5) It is necessary to speak truth to be righteous. (Proverbs l2:l7) Sin is broken off by righteousness in the anointing. (Daniel 4:27) Hunger and thirst after righteousness that You might be filled with the Spirit. (St. Matthew 5:6) "Awake to rightousness and sin not." (l Corinthians l5;34) The righteousness of man is like "filthy rags" in the sight of God. (Isaiah 64:6)
PREACH THE CROSS: (1 Corinthians 1:18) The flesh is the cross of the living sacrifice.(Romans l2:l) To deny yourself and take up your cross when Jesus Christ calls you to do it, is to enter into his poverty and lifestyle; where the flesh is crucified with "the affections and lusts thereof." (Galatians 5:24) It is by the crucified lifestyle of Christ that death of self is attained to, that we should break the chains of sin off of ourselves. (Romans 6:6) Once the living sacrifice is made free from sin, and has become the servant to God, he has his fruit of the Spirit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life." (Ropmans 6:22)
PREACH HELL: (Colossians 1:28) Some save by fear. (Jude 23) There is "blackness of darkness" in hell. (Jude ) "Hell and destruction are never full." (Proverbs 27:20) There is always room for one more. (Isaiah 5:l4) Jonah the Prophet was sent to hell for three days for his disobedience. (Jonah 2:2) Christ has the keys to death and to hell. (Revelation l:l8) Death and hell will be cast into the lake of fire after the second resurrection. (Revelation 20:l4) Jesus warned often of the lake of fire, saying: "And if your right hand offend you, cut it off, and cast if from you: for it is profitable for you that one of your members should perish, and not that your whole body should be cast into hell." (St. Matthew 5:30)
The fruit (karpos in the Greek) of the Spirit which he is speaking of is not souls. The fruit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, faith is spiritual. Galatians 5:22 The more of Christ's nature you build in you, the more spiritual fruit you will bring forth in due season and the more effective you will be in soulwinning. "It is the goodness of God that leads to repentance." When sinners taste the good spiritual fruit of the Lord in your life, they are inclined toward repentance to build Christ in their lives. Witness in joy and sinners will believe you have something they want. Answer their contentions peacefully and they'll see something in you they need. Speak the Word of God in faith believing, and they will more easily believe. Witnesses and preachers who are bullish and condemning cause "the way to be evil spoken of" (2 Peter 2:2) so sinners reason within themselves, saying: "I don't want to go to heaven if condemners are going to be there." Your attitude and your fruit make a difference in the harvest field. Preachers of contention abound in the harvest field. (Philippians l:l5/l6) Stay far from them, lest you learn their evil ways. It is of no avail to argue religion with sinners nor to prove yourself to be somebody by belittling the lost.
A similar deception in witnessing takes place when individuals travel around the country to sporting events to drop a banner in front of the telecast camera's with a verse on it like John 3:16. It might work a benefit for someone, but it is not the Word of God. The address of a Scripture can return void. If you are going to travel far and and wide and spend much time and resources to witness for the Lord who is the Word (St. John 1:1), then drop the Word in front of the telecast. The Lord sees the heart and you may have to hear him telling you, you were feigning evangelism to get God's people to pay your way to the games. Are you more interested in sporting contests or the millions of lost souls across the nation watch those contests? Sow the seed!!! We'll know you by your fruit.
It is common for Christians to use worldly wisdom to make themselves a reputation in violation of Christ's divine example and to take titles from Holy Scripture without being ordained by God to do the job. These forms of self-exaltation are not profitable for you. None of the holy men of God ever did anything to make themselves a reputation. Their servitude to God produced such good works they became "well known but unknown." The Apostle Paul was ordained to preach the Gospel (1 Timothy 2:7). The office of Apostle was not a title he took. It was the product of the power of God operating in him. "If any man thinks he is something when he is nothing, he has deceived himself." The way down is up. Humble yourself and let the Lord exalt you when its time for you to handle it.
The Apostle Paul asked the question: "How shall they hear without a preacher? How shall they preach except they be sent?" (Romans 10:14/15) Don't presume you were sent to preach and witness. It's rare for an individual to be sent. Think of witnessing and preaching as a classroom for you to grow in the faith. If God put it on your heart to witness, great; it still doesn't mean you were sent. If your church elder told you to witness and preach, it still doesn't mean you were sent by God. The Gospel is not as simple as it looks to the natural eye. Supernatural contact with God through Christ is involved in someone being sent in the power of the great mystery of godliness. When you think more of yourself than you ought to, you are quenching your own spiritual growth and effectiveness. There are preachers and there are Preachers, but Christ is "all in all."
There is a flesh attraction to media events for some witnessing groups. One group of witnesses became the darlings of religious media and haven't been seen in the harvest field for years. You are not being led by the Spirit if you want to get your picture in the paper or to talk the Gospel in the media instead of walk it. Any desire for pre-imminence or noteriety is not of the Spirit. Never go where you can be easily corrupted by the environment. Some bold fellow used to go nightclub to nightclub preaching the gospel until he was snared by the revelers and joined the congregation of the dead. Christians from all over the country travel to witness and preach the big event parties of the nation. Watch out if your heart is not right. A fight manager usually does not put his fighter into the ring unless he knows he can handle the fight. The easily tempted ought not to preach the big parties, neither should Christians ever witness on the sand of beaches in the summertime where women are lying around in bikini's. Woe unto the preacher who labors to become rich and famous. He will be easily tempted with flatteries and lusts of the flesh. In every instance where a witness or a preacher was knocked out by Satan, pride was involved. Take the Father's business seriously. The Adversary takes his business seriously. It is high risk to preach and witness at media events to get your picture in the paper in the name of the gospel. "The heart is deceitful and desperately wicked" including yours; and too many have discovered too late their motives were not pure. Avoid being interviewed by the press. "He that speaks of his own self seeks his own glory." The media is wicked. Don't think you are going to preach the gospel through them? A wonderful interviewer might take you captive with promises of a good article, but his wicked editer is a professional word twister highly capable of putting a headline on the article to make you and the Gospel look foolish. Jesus "made himself of no reputation." You do the same. Your job is to sow seed, God will promote you when you've proved ready. (Psalm 75:6)
You can also weed out deceivers who want something from you. Workers of iniquity who have taken advantage of unwary Christians previously. Once they pray the way you show them to pray, they hold out their hands for help in getting their new start in life because they have made the Christians who led them in prayer believe a soul has been won. They did not repent, but are trying to fund their wicked habits; and had you made them pray their own prayer of repentance; you could have caught them in their deception. The wicked have no heart of repentance. Their hard hearts and filthy mouths will give them away and you'll have no reason to toss anything into their collection plate.
Now, for those who are really earnest about becoming a skillful witness or a preacher in the public, there are SWORD THRUSTS which are quick, appropriate responses in a variety of situations. These can be practiced in EVANGELISM WORKSHOPS with some of the participants taking the role of those who are passing by those who are witnessing: We are advised in holy Scripture to "let our words be few." It is not how many words that are poured out in the public, but the timing and effectiveness of what is said that is used of the Spirit to impact others. A worker of iniquity might walk by saying: "I love sin." You don't need to make a speech. Turn and strike him in the heart with a sword thrust. Speak in all earnestness saying: "He that sins against God hates his own soul." (Proverbs 5:l6) If the individual keeps on going, let them go. You probably cannot do much more for him. If he verbally abuses you or confronts you, be calm and hold your ground. Work with the text just used. Develop it. Why does he hate his own soul? Let him know he is destroying his own happiness in the name of freedom to sin. "He that sins against God hates his own soul," is a memory verse every preacher and witness should know. Otherwise, you are like a hunter without ammunition and a fisherman without bait. Holy Scripture is full of SWORD THRUSTS. Short snappy phrases that work wonders if they fit the situation at hand. "He that has knowledge spares his words." (Proverbs l7:27)
There is an epidemic of filthy minded messages on shirts and jackets in America. Anyone preaching regularly in the public will encounter them. Their bad fruit is already hanging on their evil tree. What more do you need to know. They know it before you do, so they may think to sweet talk you out of a rebuke for their evil doing. And you being a weak individual may let them get away with it. But if you are wise, you will suggest it would be wiser for them to take their wicked message shirt off and freeze to death than die in the hot devouring flames of hell for broadcasting the Devil's message.
What if someone walks by while you are witnessing and says, mockingly: "Satan rules." This is common now. A quick response is: "Yes, he rules you." Two fingers pointing upward represents the horns of Satan. There are a lot of Satan lovers now in America who will quickly let you know where they stand. Be wise in how you respond to them. They love wickedness. "He that sins against God hates his own soul," (Proverbs 5:6) will work for them too.
There was a preacher with several Christians accompanying him on a beach pier crowded with fishermen. They all had large knives to clean their fish while they waited for the next bite. Some of them were liquered up. In the middle of the preaching, one of the fishermen crowded onto the pier cursed the preacher with foul language.
The preacher knew Jesus said, "Bless those who curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them who despitefully use you, and persecute you," (St. Matthew 6:44) the preacher called back in the love of God saying: "May God bless you." The fisherman said no more. The preacher went back to preaching and held an altar call on the pier by sending his companions in to pray with the fishermen. They made a good catch that day. You'll have plenty of opportunity in public preaching to bless those who curse you. Use it wisely. There is a time and place for everything.
A good admonishment for out of control youth from 12 to 14 is: "Did you know God holds you responsible for what you do now that you are older." Some American youth are already wickedly minded and will mock you. Don't give up if they can hear you. You will probably have to raise your voice a little which takes some skill to avoid appearing vexed by their obstinance. You might tell them: "No-one in hell is having a good time." "What is wrong with having a good time?" They might reply. You might say to them. "Your idea of a good time is evil." Some of them might call back to you. "You're crazy man." It's okay. Let them have the last word. You may have done them some good. The word planted properly needs watering. Try to avoid overdoing it. You'll quench the good you've done.
Lovers of evil may say to you, "The devil rules." You can tell them. "Yes, he rules you." They'll usually keep on going, but if they confront you saying: "How do you know that man?" You can tell them the truth in love without flinching. "If you loved the Lord, you wouldn't be witnessing for the devil." "But we believe in the devil man." "I believe in the devil too, but I don't have anything good to say about him. You like the devil because you love darkness."
Let's say a theologian confronts you with the fact he is a graduate with a theological degree and does not like your manner of representing the Gospel. You might say to him: "The Apostle Paul graduated from religion, you can too." "Resist the devil and he'll flee from you." You'll be surprised at how presumptuously proud and controlling some religious leaders can be. Don't let them take over you or your work. John the Baptist saw through their intents in coming down to the Jordan River to take over his work when he rebuked them. "Give no ground to the Adversary," regardless of what form he comes in. If a theologian presents his religious credentials, you might ask him: "Are your ordination papers made of Spirit." If he answers pridefully that he earned them in the Spirit, then you can counter by saying: "The Lord says, I will know you by your spiritual fruit today; not by what religious classroom you attended yesterday."
Anyone opposes the proper preaching of the gospel is your adversary. Witnessing and preaching requires skill as well as Spirit? What will you do if the police roll up in a squad car and come over saying: "You've got to have a license to preach here." "I have my license right here," you can tell them, then hold up your Bible. God's Disciples are to go into all the world and preach the Gospel to every creature, that includes the police. "Well that's well and good," they'll probably say; "but you're preaching on private property." What they just told you was you cannot preach in this world, because it is all private property. Accept the challenge. If you're at the doors of a shopping mall or the gates of a stadium or the entry of a big name amusement park, you're on a city's streets of gold. The switchboard is light up at the police station. The rich sinners want you out of there. Wisdom "calls out at the gates, at the entry of the city, at the coming in at the doors." (Proverbs 8:3) They make a lot of tax money off of those businesses and the City Manager does not want you running off customers. Besides, their egotistical pride may require them to prove their superiority. Usually, the only way you can win a prime locations is to let them taxi you to jail and return relentlessly until you get enough press or legal leverage to take it to jury trial and get it tossed out. As long as you are free to stand up to them on the site, you can answer them: "This may be private property, but there is also public access." You are legally and morally correct, but they will not back down.
It'll be about seventeen hours processing through the jail house even if they don't keep you because of overcrowding. The next step to beat them legally is to decline signing the conditional release statement. Make them jail you. Otherwise you'll have wasted approximately seventeen hours in their sleazy processing center with evildoers of all kinds and have nothing to show for it. They are counting on your signing their conditional release so you won't have to go to jail, but even though they've worn you out with food and rest deprivation; you may as well hold fast your faith. If you want to win the right to witness in choice spots, there is a price to pay. Go right back to the location you want to use, pay the bailsbondsman in advance this time and make sure you have a receipt (hidden where the police can't find it) showing you purchased something from the businesses on the site. Now you may be able to avoid the torture of processing through their prison system again and your receipt was your other legal license to be there. You'll have a much better chance of persuading a jury if you can bring it to trial.
The bottem line is Separation of Church and State. Hypocritical authorities like to promote Separation of Church and State to the Church, but they do not hesitate to cross the legal line with guns and tasers to violate the rights of public proclaimers of the the gospel of Jesus Christ. When they throw it up in your face again that you must have a license to preach or witness in public, reject it. Freedom to preach without interference is guaranteed under "the free exercise of religion" along with "the freedom of speech" of every American.
federally as well as under the constitutional right of "free exercise of speech." Congress is not allowed to make any law against the free exercise of religion, but every local authority will swear on a stack of Bibles you are violating the law if you are using amplication or standing where they don't want you to stand. Sinners use amplification with impunity, but preachers have to plough through constant obstruction by the government. American institutions have got it in their policies that God's people do not have the freedom of speech to pray in the name of Jesus Christ in American institutions. In other words, we are If you allow them to give you a license, they'll use it to control you; and as soon as you do not follow their instructions, they'll stamp your license void. After they stamp it void, they have visible evidence against you, that you are not worthy to witness there in the choice location. You've lost ground that was already yours legally. And no matter what location you choose in that city, county or state, a voided license can be used to bear witness against you.
The bottem line is: the Church has accepted the idea of Separation of Church and State as though those words were law and Bible. In doing so, the Church has stayed on its side of that imaginary fence while sinners took over the country; and now they have all of the military and police power, and the Church has been reduced to protests and law suits.
There are some tough objections to preaching. Someone you are preaching to might say: "What gives you the right to tell me what to believe?" If you tell them the free exercise of religion is a federal right, you'll be speaking the word that returns void. Speak the Word. Tell the objector, "You're not telling him what to believe, but are recommending who he ought to believe." "Well, thanks very much," he might say, "but I'll go to Church when I'm ready. I don't need you coming out here into the world to bother me." "The Lord wants us to go into all the world and preach the Gospel to every creature." "Well, I have the right to believe what I want to believe." "You are correct Sir, and God who created heaven and earth and all that is exists has the right to judge you accordingly." He might continue objecting, saying: "Look, I was minding my own business." "Yes, and I am minding my Father's business." If he becomes irritated and says something like: "You mind your Father's business and I'll mind mine." He may have unintentionally given you the right to continue, but if his temperment says he's had enough, you may do more to promote the Gospel by leaving him alone.
There are street witnesses and preachers in America who believe in CONFRONTATIONAL PREACHING. It is an unbiblical doctrine with them. There is nothing new about it. The Apostle Paul wrote: "AND MANY OF THE BRETHREN IN THE LORD, WAXING CONFIDENT BY MY BONDS, ARE MUCH MORE BOLD TO SPEAK THE WORD WITHOUT FEAR. SOME INDEED PREACH CHRIST EVEN OF ENVY AND STRIFE; AND SOME ALSO OF GOOD WILL: THE ONE PREACH CHRIST OF CONTENTION, NOT SINCERELY, SUPPOSING TO ADD AFFLICTION TO MY BONDS: BUT THE OTHER OF LOVE, KNOWING THAT I AM SET FOR THE DEFENSE OF THE GOSPEL. WHAT THEN? NOTWITHSTANDING EVERY WAY, WHETHER IN PRETENCE, OR IN TRUTH, CHRIST IS PREACHED; AND I THEREIN DO REJOICE, YEA, AND WILL REJOICE." (Philippians 14/18)
If they see you witnessing and preaching in the public, they most likely will attempt to recruit you for their purposes and may even prove helpful in some ways; but avoid them altogether or you will learn their evil ways. Don't be impressed by their use of bullhorns and banners, hat and shirt messages, and vehicle messages. Don't be impressed with their organizations or their websites. You can use those same carnal weapons of warfare to win souls. You don't need to join them to do it. And if God simply has not given you greatness of spirit, refrain from them. God has already provided you an oasis in Him if you seek the LORD our God with ALL YOUR HEART, SOUL, MIND AND STRENGTH.
You have this website. Keep it close to your heart. Keep it close to your soul. Keep it close to your mind. And you will find it close to your spirit if you give yourself over to the Lord in all you do, and forsake the fear of man. We can only die once. So let us be brave. Go into THE BATTLEFIELD OF SOULS.
One thing I have found CONFRONTATION PREACHERS possessing in their lack of experience is a "shortage of education." Learning is not theirs. They can put up a STATEMENT OF FAITH briefly with no depth to it.
"KNOWLEDGE IS THE PATH TO GOD, AND THE BALANCE OF MATERIAL TO SPIRITUAL IS SOMETHING WE MUST TRUST GOD TO SHOW US THROUGH THE CONTINUAL SEEKING OF HIS SPIRIT, RATHER THAN WHAT APPEARS TO BE RIGHT IN EVANGELISM!"
Jesus never came into any Israeli town or city with a banner communicating his message.
None of the Apostles used banners or any kind of written message in their witnessing and preaching.
Watch out for any man who TAKES TITLE to the offices of: PREACHER, APOSTLE, PROPHET, PASTOR, TEACHER, MIRACLE WORKER, or WITNESS:
CONFRONTATION STREET PREACHERS: are an all knowing egotistical bunch of boasters from beginning to end. Few of them are accountable to anyone. Their Vulgar, crude and ungodly behaviour on their part goes unnoticed by their ungodly selves. Their mode of operation is basically that of Christian bullies attending America's parties such as Martis Gras, the Oscars, the Rose Bowl partying crowd on Colorado Blvd., in Pasadena on New Year's eve and so on. Whereever the media is, and whereever the nation is partying; they they are. They freely condemn the lost in flagrant abuse of THE FREE EXERCISE OF RELIGION, and turn off hundreds before capturing the interest of a sinner. They do more harm than good. Many will go to hell because they saw CONFRONTATIONAL PREACHERS marching with banners and bullhorns in public and decided they wouldn't ever want anything to do with Christianity if those rascals will be there.
They are so busy intimidating sinners with condemnation public places calling crowds to repentance; and mocking them for hustling off; sinners get the idea God is giving them an ultimatim to become like those who are confronting them or HE will throw them into hellfire and damnation. Since THE LOVE OF GOD is not in preachers of condemnation, they cannot PREACH IN THE LOVE OF GOD, and sinners see no reason to join up with a bunch of Jesus freaks marching into their parties to break the party spirit with their wrong message. Sinners are right to complain to them for interupting their party with nothing of any substance to convince them to quit their funmaking.
Good preaching offers sinners promises of good for absolute obedience unto God:
"THE JOY OF THE LORD WILL BE YOUR STRENGTH." "THE PEACE THAT PASSES ALL UNDERSTANDING WILL COMFORT YOU." "YOU WILL BE ENABLED TO DO ALL THINGS THROUGH CHRIST WHO STRENGTHENS YOU." "YOU CAN BECOME ENLIGHTENED IN CHRIST." "CONFUSION WILL STAND BACK FROM YOU." "YOU WILL HAVE THE LORD AS YOUR INTERCESSOR HELPING YOU OVERCOME THE DEVIL AND HIS HORDES OF DEMONS." "DEATH WILL LOSE ITS THREAT." "YOU CAN BECOME AN OVERCOMER IN CHRIST."
But PREACHERS OF CONDEMNATION take license from the holy Book saying they are "CONTENDING FOR THE FAITH." Condemning sinners is not "CONTENDING FOR THE FAITH." They wrangle with anyone who attempts to show them a better way, and say they are rebuking or reproving them when the truth is: they are contentious perpetually and have no ears to hear. They preach their own word rather than the Word of God which is Spirit. They love ENTICING WORDS OF MEN'S WISDOM, such as "Sodomites are loving themselves to death." "Real men love Jesus." And anyone who is saved is immediately A NEW MAN. All you gotta do is show up with them with banner and a NO BULL (TRUTH) HORN and you are the proof you are A NEW MAN. If you want to know what A NEW MAN is in Biblical terminology, study the holy men in the holy Book. They were supernatural. Their works were supernatural.
They say the Prophets and Apostles were street preachers, suggesting they are one or the other themselves. They say God has given them a banner according to the Word of God, yet the Word of God is missing from most of their banners and messages. They prefer their word to the Word of God trading in the supernatural for the natural, and so natural men they remain unchanging through the years and decades of their supposed service to the holy Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Since they have found space in the legal system to do their thing, rejoice that they are out there in the public even as Saint Paul said he rejoiced in regard to their kind in the first century. But stay your distance from them lest you learn their evil ways and become like them.
Since they are attracted to preach and witness at the big parties in this nation including Sodomite parades and festivals, they show themselves unwise fishermen. Fishermen go where the fish are good food. They fish where they are biting. Sodomites are seriously contaminated sinners. You will work a thousand times harder to win one of them and will find them backsliding a thousand times quicker than ordinary sinners who simply haven't heard they need to be saved.
All of their boasting will come to a quick end when Christ returns in the glory of God to set up his global Kingdom upon the earth. "NO FLESH WILL BOAST" before the JUDGEMENT SEAT OF CHRIST unto the Lord of glory, neither will ungodly men stand in his glorious Presence. If you live a holy Life in this world and STAND UP TO THEM, and they will grab hold of some great good you do, to condemn you too. Its better to be "DESPISED AND REJECTED" by them, than to find yourselves among THE MANY OF THE FIRST WHO SHALL BE LAST!
Learn to speak the written Word in the Spirit. When you go into the public places to witness, to preach and pray; be the first to include worshiping in public in the devout life you take up to attain to Christ and "LIFE AND LIFE MORE ABUNDANTLY" which God Almighty delivers to the faithful in his own timing, and not when you think he ought to pay up for whatever you think you have done for him.
"LIFE AND LIFE MORE ABUNDANTLY" is promised to those who obey God in everything guided by the Spirit of God who "TEACHES ALL THINGS" in his anointing.
If any of them says you ought not to take holy communion and worship, pray, preach, and praise GOD in public in America, they speak as dry deserts with no vision of building Christ into a kingdom within from which will flow RIVERS OF LIVING WATERS INTO WORDS HOLY MEN AND WOMEN VOCALIZE IN WAYS GOD SHOWS THEM TO DO IT.
Its a package deal God wants to make with those with ears to hear.
God teaches believers to be like gods in becoming like Christ, and rather than argue theology with preachers of contention who have no intention of going on to SPIRITUAL PERFECTION, it is better to just avoid them altogether.
They are little gods in the way they live and judge American society and growl at spiritual minded reproofs.
Your greatest hope is to become "A VESSEL SUITABLE FOR THE MASTER'S USE." Live for God day and night through the seeking of Christ by his holy Word in the KJV 1611.
THE BIBLE does not sponser any man. We sponser the BIBLE. We represent or mis-represent it.
"DENY YOURSELF AND TAKE UP YOUR CROSS" in Christ, in obedience to the written Word, in line with good and holy advice. Do not turn to the left or the right. But go where the Word properly understand guides you in the Spirit of truth.
It is not cowardly to "leave off contention." You are being obedient to holy Scripture. Witnessing and preaching involves contending for the faith, but contentious arguments which profit no-one ought to be avoided. So don't take it personally if you find it necessary to walk away from an egotist whose only interest is to win an argument with you. Though it may seem like they hate you, the Lord says: "The world cannot hate you, but me it hates; because I testify of it; that THE WORKS THEREOF ARE EVIL." (St. John 7:7) We are to give no ground to the devil, but when a conversation becomes contentious, it is no longer profitable. Leave it off if you can. Its best to not enter into contentions then you do not have to find an exit.
When it comes to dealing with Mormons and Jehovah Witnesses and others who have another Jesus, Christians usually try to convince them they are wrong. If they had wanted to be right, they wouldn't be in a cult. You will spend a lot of unnecessary time in the persuasions of "apologetics." There is The cults and occults do not call people to repentance. They are the broad path to destruction. They accept sinners just the way they are and have them dress up in suits and ties with briefcases and badges after a brief religious education. Since we ought to warn everyone along the way the danger in not repenting, the most effective thing you can do with the Mormon and Jehovah Witnesses when you see them presenting their religion in the public is to preach saying: "If you have not repented yourself, how can you call others to the Gospel of Jesus Christ." This two edged sword strategy has the effect of warning those they are lying to in public without your having to appear to be malicious.
You will not have a great deal of success prying Catholics away from Catholicism nor Protestants away from Protestantism, in fact, you'll offend most of them because they believe religion excels all of the religions of the world in the beauty of their cathedrals and churches. Don't waste time telling them what is wrong with their religion. Let them know something about leading a devout life so they can make their religion better. It is truth setting men and women free, not the Church or its priests and pastors.
There is no harm in listening to the babble you will receive from a Muslim testifying FOR the god of this world they worship. You will find Muslims entrenched in their religion culturally as well as by the serious risk to their well being they face when attempting to leave Islam. For a Muslim to give up Islam, they have to also be willing to be ostracized by their nation. They say they believe in the Bible, but actually they pervert it; so you are certainly free to tell any Muslim they do not believe in the Bible or they would not be Muslim. If they say they are a holy people, you can tell them that is their opinion. If they say Mecca is a holy place, you can warn them in a Spirit of love that there is no salvation in Mecca. If they say Mohammed is their messenger, you can let them know your messenger is far greater than their messenger. In all things, you can withstand a Muslim by speaking the truth in love aimed directly at what they are saying.
"To love Jesus is to love Life, to hate him is to love death." (Ref. Proverbs 8:36) Many religions say they accept Jesus as a Prophet. If they accept him as a Prophet and deny his deity, they consider the Saviour a liar? The Lord said: If they deny me before men, I will deny them before my Father in heaven." There is no reason to get ugly with a sinner for denying the deity of Christ. It is their folly and not yours, but you can "speak the truth in love" to them, saying: "I'm sorry your Jesus is not the same Jesus as mine. My Jesus created the world you are standing on. Your Jesus has been demoted to a Prophet."
What would you say to a sinner who comes to you with a fist full of lotto tickets saying he has life in the palm of his hand? Would condemnation do any good? No. But you can tell him: "If you follow after vanity, you will become vain." What is vanity anyway? If they gamble and win the lottery, they didn't earn that money. What do you think the Lord will do about it? He says in his Word: "That which is gotten by vanity shall be taken away." If a sinner is boastful about not having to serve God, you can warn him "Pride comes before the fall." If a sinner prefers prostitutes to the responsibility of marriage, you can let him know whores are doors to death. If a sinner despises the Word of God, you ought to let him know that "Whosoever despises the Word shall be destroyed." (Proverbs 13:13) If a sinner has no fruit of the Spirit but is in attendance at some church, you can advise them that "the church is not the way, the truth and the Life." Jesus saves. Many Christians are unaware of how quickly they are losing the attention of sinners by talking about what they want to talk about from the Scriptures rather than respond to what sinners are saying; and so sinners quickly lose interest.
Most sinners think they have no need of God until its too late. In their spiritual darkness they see no advantage in serving the Lord. It seems like bondage to them. Christianity appears to be a crutch for the weak and the foolish. So you "see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called: But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God has chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; and base things of the world, and things which are despised, has God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are: That no flesh should glory in his Presence." (l Corinthians l:26:29) Why doesn't God choose many wise, mighty, or noble? They would think he chose them because of their wisdom, might or nobility. They would think God needs them. That he respects them, but God is no respector of persons. Wise men would suppose God is impressed with their inventions, their theories, their scientific discoveries and so on. The mighty athelete or soldier or businessman would think God is impressed with their mightiness. The nobleman would think God is impressed with his nobility. But one thing every holy man has in common is an awareness God has no need of anyone no matter how great he has made them. In being brought out of weakness and foolishness, a man of God is better able to give God all of the glory when spiritual perfection is attained in Christ. He most likely has been brought from weakness to might and from foolishness to wisdom by the Spirit of the Lord. One man sows, another waters, but God gives the growth. (St. John 4:37) You do your part and God will do his part.
But, like a fisherman casting his line into the sea of humanity with good bait, when one of the wise, mighty or noble individuals bites; you had better forget everything else for a season. You are in for the fight of your life and you can't afford to let him know it. The wise, mighty, or noble man is going to take your line to the bottom of the sea. He is going to leap out of the water and twist and turn with all his power to get the hook out of his mouth. And he is going to dare you to try to reel him in before he's ready to surrender. He'll snap the line if you do. He'll race toward you and take the line back out to sea with all his might. Too many Christians think God is going to do the fishing for you. But the Son of God, said: "I will make you a fisherman of men," Fishing for souls is not something you do mechanically the same way every time. A fisherman considers seriously what kind of fish he has hooked and reels him in accordingly.
The goodness of God takes on may forms of godliness in leading sinners to repentance. Sales techniques can be useful in soulwinning. Killing the objections is one of them. If someone is proud of who they are, tell them they can be greater yet if they have Christ strengthening them. If they are angry at the world God made, tell them they can help him fix it. If they complain about the failures in their lives, tell them the Lord causes his servants to triumph in all things. If they are having trouble learning, tell them knowledge is easy for those who have been set free in the truth of Christ. If they have health problems, tell them the Word of God is healing to all their flesh. If an individual is distressed or in grief, a solemn approach is called for. Avoid condemning and judging the lost. You'll never win anyone by offending them.
A dedicated wife was dumped by her husband for no other reason than he was an unloving, unappreciative individual who was tired of her. He was lusting for other women. He kicked her out to make room for his whoredoms. She was unaware of it in her service to him, but she had become his laundrywoman, disherwasher and housekeeper. She was in terrible grief. Soft words were used by someone who had been trying to lead her to the Lord. He saw her drowning in distress sitting on a curb with her head hanging low. He calmly offered her the Lifesaver. Speaking ever so slowly, hee created the need saying, "If you will receive the Lord this moment, his peace will come in and begin to comfort you and give you relief. In a few weeks you'll be completely free from your grief." He spoke directly to the most urgent need in her life. She needed to be free from grief. Jesus was the solution. There was no other quick exit from the overwhelming sorrow she was experiencing. "If you do not accept the Lord's offer of mercy for your life," he told her, "You may grieve for endless months." She had no answers of her own. No-where to go. No money in the bank. A minimum wage job. She was forty and unattractive. There was very little hope another man would want her. She took him up on the offer to pray and went back into the fast food restuarant where she worked. The Lord made good the promise to her. Her grieving period was cut short. She joined a Church and is a genuine Christian to this day. "Rejoice with them that rejoice, and weep with them that weep." (Romans l2:l5) She listened because he felt her pain and sorrow. There is "a time to weep, and a time to laugh, a time to mourn, and a time to dance;..." (Ecclesiastes 3:4) He didn't weep because he knew she had rejected Christ regularly in the past, but he was solemnly mournful. Do you see dear Christian how adaptable you have to be to win the lost. Fish do not make a habit of jumping on the hook. Make sure you have the right bait. Work with God to tailer salvation to fit the need of the lost. God is infinitely creative. You'll probably never hear a duplicate testimony of salvation. But you won't win the soul you tell to wait on God's timing. "BEHOLD, NOW IS THE ACCEPTED TIME; BEHOLD, NOW IS THE DAY OF SALVATION. (2 Corinthians 6:2) There may be no tomorrow for the person you are talking to, and many who reject the wooings of the holy Spirit do so forever.
Creating the need is a sales technique used by professionals who are wiser in this generation than the children of light. (St. Luke l6:8) But, "he who wins souls is wise." (Proverbs ll:30) A wise soulwinner is selling an invisibly divine Person to sinners. Too many Christians are focused on the free gift of salvation while conveniently forgetting the fullness of Christ is purchased at the cross in death of self. It is not wrong to say we are selling sinners on purchasing Christ. They can't purchase him with money, but they can purchase Him with absolute obedience. When a devout living sacrifice purchases gold tried in the fire, he is purchasing Christ. (Revelation 3:l8) He is partaking of the divine nature. "Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these you might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust." (2 Peter l:4) One of the reasons men are not taking up the cross of Christ, is the lack of emphasis upon purchasing Christ forever in a life committed to martyrdom. You see dear reader, a man committed to die this very moment; is a man hard to compromise. Are you busy winning new members to your Church or disciples dedicated to die for Jesus Christ? If they want to become spiritually perfected, they need to die to themselves totally.
When you have preached to a crowd successfully, you may want to fish the crowd. Look several of the listeners in the eye while calmly asking them: "HOW ABOUT YOU?" This is a phrase designed to elicit a response without ending the discourse. Try to eye the more hopeful respondants to get positive responses going. Once you get the first, "You can count me in." Keep working the hopefuls in the hope others will follow. Another might say: "I'm already in." "Great! Look someone else in the eye. "How about you!" Try not to put a questioning intonation on it. Say it like its already settled. You're making the decision for them subliminally. People tend to be unable to make such an important decision. Don't give up the crowd you've gathered because you're tired and don't know what to do. The fish are in the net. Pull it into the boat. Every man is given faith. Tell them, "I know you have faith." Look another in the eye. "How about you." Now there is always going to be a heckler. So someone cries out. "I don't want to hear it!" Calm him down. Tell him softly but firmly. "Don't worry. God won't force you to go to heaven." Another heckler gains courage from the first and cries out that you don't know what you're talking about. Don't try to convince him you do, silence him. Tell him: "You're smarter than that." You just told him what he said was stupid, but you did it without ugly offensive language. Get your eye off of him or he'll come back with more junk. Move in to one of the hopefuls who responded positively and lay hands on them and pray quietly and briefly for them, keeping an eye on your crowd for the next recipient of prayer. They'll let you know with their body language if they want it. Move on. Keep the momentum. If one of the hecklers comes up to put his hands on you, don't resist the evil. Keep doing what you are doing as though he were not speaking or touching you. He's making you look good. When he loses face, you may win him too. You're giving away the greatest product in the world. The hope of healing for their physical and spiritual lives and of eternal life. Keep in mind they are afraid of the cost. Be personable, dynamic, firmly in charge, change your volume to fit the situation, vary your emotional voice tones, be aware of facial expressions you are projecting. The oratory of inspirational public preaching is the greatest art in the world to be mastered. Religious leaders have captive audiences, but you are capturing an audience. If you hesitate too long. If you answer your audience with a wrong attitude. If your content is confusing. If your delivery is weak. If you let hecklers bother you. You can lose control over the crowd at any moment, but what incredible joy there was in Jerusalem when Saint Peter fished in three thousand souls. The angels of heaven were rejoicing. They helped him. You are not alone when you are preaching.
