There is no need for confusion in regard to when there will be a new heaven and a new earth. The earth will continue in much the same manner it presently is, for the duration of the thousand year reign of Christ. At the end of the thousand years, comes the new heaven and the new earth. An earth no longer lighted by the sun and moon. An earth void of oceans.

What we have before us is a powerful prayer of David who as King of Israel and a prophet who saw the future more clearly than the average believer, was able to pray for power before that day arrives:

Psa 72:1 Give the king thy judgments, O God, and thy righteousness unto the king's son. (Here David knows as a Prophet that he is leaving the Kingdom of Israel to his son, Solomon to rule over; but is nonetheless praying God will give him "his judgments.")

Psa 72:2 He shall judge thy people with righteousness, and thy poor with judgment.

Psa 72:3 The mountains shall bring peace to the people, and the little hills, by righteousness. (David is forecasting what will be in the Millenium Age. The world will be in such a state of peace, the mountains will be peaceful and enjoyable. There will no longer be a fear of some murderer coming out of the woods at night to do wickedly. And even the little hills will bring peace to the divine Presence of the Lord's righteousness.

Psa 72:4 He shall judge the poor of the people, he shall save the children of the needy, and shall break in pieces the oppressor. (Here is the rod of iron judgment. The breaking in pieces of the oppressor.)

Psa 72:5 "THEY SHALL FEAR THEE AS LONG AS THE SUN AND MOON ENDURES, throughout all generations. (At the end of the thousand year reign, God will create a new heaven and a new earth, then there will no longer be a need for a sun or a moon. God will provide the earth with light.)

Psa 72:6 He shall come down like rain upon the mown grass: as showers [that] water the earth.

Psa 72:7 In his days shall the righteous flourish; and abundance of peace so long as the moon endureth. (The righteous will flourish. The righteous as a category involves the Saints. The Saints already know how to live a monastic non-materialistic existence seeking the Lord continually. They will fit into the new economy much better in the Millenium Age with the lifting of restrictions on holy behaviour and practices.)

Psa 72:8 He shall have dominion also from sea to sea, and from the river unto the ends of the earth. (There will have dominion everywhere on the earth.)

Psa 72:9 They that dwell in the wilderness shall bow before him; and his enemies shall lick the dust. (Those who dwell in the Judean wildnerness shall bow before the Lord of glory. The enemies of the Lord SHALL LICK THE DUST of Israel at his feet. The Lord is not offering a passive nor a liberal government to his people, but a dynamic clear cut authoritative one. )

Psa 72:10 The kings of Tarshish and of the isles shall bring presents: the kings of Sheba and Seba shall offer gifts.

Psa 72:11 Yea, all kings shall fall down before him: all nations shall serve him. (Christ shall rule the earth. All nations will be united in service to Christ and to Israel.)

Psa 72:12 For he shall deliver the needy when he crieth; the poor also, and [him] that hath no helper.

Psa 72:13 He shall spare the poor and needy, and shall save the souls of the needy. (In THE HOUR OF WRATH when the Lord purges the earth of the wicked, he spares the poor and needy and leaves them to repopulate the earth during the Millenium Age.)

Psa 72:14 He shall redeem their soul from deceit and violence: and precious shall their blood be in his sight.

Psa 72:15 And he shall live, and to him shall be given of the gold of Sheba: prayer also shall be made for him continually; [and] daily shall he be praised. (This verse of prophecy is speaking of the Lord Jesus Christ. He shall be given of the gold of Sheba and prayer also shall be made for him continually, most likely in the glorious rebuilt Millenium temple.

Psa 72:16 There shall be an handful of corn in the earth upon the top of the mountains; the fruit thereof shall shake like Lebanon: and [they] of the city shall flourish like grass of the earth.

Psa 72:17 His name shall endure for ever: his name shall be continued as long as the sun: and [men] shall be blessed in him: all nations shall call him blessed.

Psa 72:18 Blessed [be] the LORD God, the God of Israel, who only doeth wondrous things.

Psa 72:19 And blessed [be] his glorious name for ever: and let the whole earth be filled [with] his glory; Amen, and Amen.

Psa 72:20 The prayers of David the son of Jesse are ended.

Once again, we will quote an entire chapter of Millenium Prophecy and provide a commentary in parenthesis of the things the Prophet is addressing: By the time you work your way through to verse twenty where the sun and moon are mentioned, you should have a much better idea of what the Millenium Age will be like:

1 Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the LORD is risen upon thee.

Isa 60:2 For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people: but the LORD shall arise upon thee, and his glory shall be seen upon thee. (At the time of the second coming, DARKNESS SHALL COVER THE EARTH. But the glory of the Lord will be seen upon Israel. Then you will know she as a nation has great favor with God.)

Isa 60:3 And the Gentiles shall come to thy light, and kings to the brightness of thy rising.

Isa 60:4 Lift up thine eyes round about, and see: all they gather themselves together, they come to thee: thy sons shall come from far, and thy daughters shall be nursed at [thy] side.

Isa 60:5 Then thou shalt see, and flow together, and thine heart shall fear, and be enlarged; because the abundance of the sea shall be converted unto thee, the forces of the Gentiles shall come unto thee. (The hearts of Israeli's shall be enlarged when they see how much favor they have with God.)

Isa 60:6 The multitude of camels shall cover thee, the dromedaries of Midian and Ephah; all they from Sheba shall come: they shall bring gold and incense; and they shall shew forth the praises of the LORD. (Mechanized vehicles will no longer be in use. Camels and the faster dromedaries will be in use. In another prophecy we are told they will cover the land. See Psalm 46:9 where the language needs to be modernized for the reader to understand "chariots" refers to mechanized vehicles that will be melted down in the fervent heat of the fire of the Lord's wrath.)

Isa 60:7 All the flocks of Kedar shall be gathered together unto thee, the rams of Nebaioth shall minister unto thee: they shall come up with acceptance on mine altar, and I will glorify the house of my glory. (The law as Moses and Aaron were taught to practice it by God in the wildnerness, that law shall be practice again in the thousand year reign of Christ, and animal sacrifices will resume on the altar of the rebuilt Millenium temple. And Christ WILL GLORIFY THE HOUSE OF HIS GLORY.)

Isa 60:8 Who [are] these [that] fly as a cloud, and as the doves to their windows?

Isa 60:9 Surely the isles shall wait for me, and the ships of Tarshish first, to bring thy sons from far, their silver and their gold with them, unto the name of the LORD thy God, and to the Holy One of Israel, because he hath glorified thee.

Isa 60:10 And the sons of strangers shall build up thy walls, and their kings shall minister unto thee: for in my wrath I smote thee, but in my favour have I had mercy on thee. (Just as in times of old when Solomon was in power, Gentiles labor was used to speed things up. There will apparently be a need for more walls or a rebuilding of the city walls that survived, and Gentiles will do the work.)

Isa 60:11 Therefore thy gates shall be open continually; they shall not be shut day nor night; that [men] may bring unto thee the forces of the Gentiles, and [that] their kings [may be] brought. (The gates will BE OPEN CONTINUALLY that the Gentiles may be brought to Israel where the light of the Lord's glory will keep Jerusalem lit up at all times.)

Isa 60:12 For the nation and kingdom that will not serve thee shall perish; yea, [those] nations shall be utterly wasted. (This world has been given into the hands of the wicked, but the world to come will be given into the hands of the righteous.)

Isa 60:13 The glory of Lebanon shall come unto thee, the fir tree, the pine tree, and the box together, to beautify the place of my sanctuary; and I will make the place of my feet glorious. (Some building materials for the Millenium temple will come to Israel much like it did in Solomon's day.)

Isa 60:14 The sons also of them that afflicted thee shall come bending unto thee; and all they that despised thee shall bow themselves down at the soles of thy feet; and they shall call thee, The city of the LORD, The Zion of the Holy One of Israel. (Jerusalem will be called THE CITY OF THE LORD.)

Isa 60:15 Whereas thou hast been forsaken and hated, so that no man went through [thee], I will make thee an eternal excellency, a joy of many generations. (Though it will not be immediate evident, the Lord will establish a right atttitude among the nations toward Israel, and Israel will become the most desireable place upon the earth to be. "A JOY OF MANY GENERATIONS.")

Isa 60:16 Thou shalt also suck the milk of the Gentiles, and shalt suck the breast of kings: and thou shalt know that I the LORD [am] thy Saviour and thy Redeemer, the mighty One of Jacob.

Isa 60:17 For brass I will bring gold, and for iron I will bring silver, and for wood brass, and for stones iron: I will also make thy officers peace, and thine exactors righteousness. (Gold will be in abundance in Israel. By this prophecy it appears that vessels previously made of brass will be made of gold. The police will not be bullies like we see in this present world at times. They will be peace officers come in peace. This does not mean they will have less power over the individual. Quite the contrary. They will enforce the law that goes forth out of Zion peaceably and the collectors of what is owed whether it be taxes or tithes or payments due, those exactors will be righteous.)

Isa 60:18 Violence shall no more be heard in thy land, wasting nor destruction within thy borders; but thou shalt call thy walls Salvation, and thy gates Praise.

Isa 60:19 The sun shall be no more thy light by day; neither for brightness shall the moon give light unto thee: but the LORD shall be unto thee an everlasting light, and thy God thy glory. (The light of the moon will be useless over Israel. The Lord shall be abright light there, though his glory will be concealed from the world in such a manner as to restrict his brightness from having the same effect worldwide.)

Isa 60:20 THY SUN SHALL NO MORE GO DOWN; NEITHER SHALL YOUR MOON WITHDRAW ITSELF: for the LORD shall be thine everlasting light, and the days of thy mourning shall be ended. (There will be light in Israel around the clock. Israel will become the land of Light during the thousand year reign of Christ. Around the clock light will make it easier for Israel to service the nations coming and going to worship the Lord. And it will have spiritual meaning. Israel will become the land of the enlightened.)

Isa 60:21 Thy people also [shall be] all righteous: they shall inherit the land for ever, the branch of my planting, the work of my hands, that I may be glorified.

Isa 60:22 A little one shall become a thousand, and a small one a strong nation: I the LORD will hasten it in his time. Return to Top
