The author of the holy book of Hebrews tells us: "NOW OF THE THINGS WHICH WE HAVE SPOKEN THIS IS THE SUM: WE HAVE SUCH AN HIGH PREIST, WHO IS SET ON THE RIGHT HAND OF THE THRONE OF THE MAJESTY IN THE HEAVENS; A MINISTER OF THE SANCTUARY, AND OF THE TRUE TABERNACLE, WHICH THE LORD PITCHED, AND NOT MAN. FOR EVERY HIGH PRIEST IS ORDAINED TO OFFER GIFTS AND SACRIFICES: WHEREFORE IT IS OF NECESSITY THAT THIS MAN (JESUS) HAVE SOMEWHAT ALSO TO OFFER." Hebrews 8:1/4
When Jesus ascended from the Mount of Olives into heaven, he sat down at the right hand of the throne of God as our High Priest and intercessor (which means among other things, he prays through those of us who pray in the Spirit.)
The Son of God did not take on the "the nature of angels; but he took on him the seed of Abraham." Hebrews 2:16
"WHEREFORE IN ALL THINGS IT BEHOVED HIM TO BE MADE LIKE UNTO HIS BRETHREN THAT HE MIGHT BE A MERCIFUL AND FAITHFUL HIGH PRIEST IN THINGS PERTAINING TO GOD, TO MAKE RECONCILIATION FOR THE SINS OF THE PEOPLE. FOR IN THAT HE HIMSELF HAS SUFFERED BEING TEMPTED HE IS ABLE TO SUCCOUR THEM THAT ARE TEMPTED." Hebrews 2:17/18
So it is whether you be Jewish or Gentile in the flesh, you have a High Priest in heaven who is able to intercede in your behalf to God the Father. Our God is one God.
"SEEING THEN THAT WE HAVE A GREAT HIGH PRIEST, THT IS PASSED INTO THE HEAVENS, JESUS THE SON OF GOD, LET US HOLD FAST OUR PROFESSION. FOR WE HAVE NOT AN HIGH PRIEST WHICH CANNOT BE TOUCHED WITH THE FEELING OF OUR INFIRMITIES; BUT WAS IN ALL POINTS TEMPTED LIKE AS WE ARE, YET WITHOUT SIN. LET US THEREFORE COME BOLDLY UNTO THE THRONE OF GRACE, THAT WE MAY OBTAIN MERCY, AND FIND GRACE TO HELP IN TIME OF NEED." Hebrews 4:14/16
"AND NO MAN TAKES THIS HONOUR UNTO HIMSELF, BUT HE THAT IS CALLED OF GOD, AS WAS AARON. SO ALSO CHRIST GLORIFIED NOT NOT HIMSELF TO BE MADE AN HIGH PRIEST; BUT HE THAT SAID UNTO HIM, "YOU ARE MY SON, TODAY HAVE I BEGOTTEN YOU." Hebrews 5:5
Fascinating text isn't it. God said to Jesus the day he was brought forth out of the womb of Mary, "YOU ARE MY SON, TODAY HAVE I BEGOTTEN YOU." Do you remember anyone saying anything to you on the day you were conceived? No. But Jesus Christ is the second Person of the godhead. That was God in the flesh born of Mary, and the child the wise men saw in the barn was no empty headed child. Jesus was fully aware he was God in the flesh of a baby on that day when the Father spoke to him.
And God said in another place, "YOU ARE A PRIEST FOREVER AFTER THE ORDER OF MELCHISEDEC." Hebrews 5:6
Melchisedec has "no beginning of days nor end of life,..." Furthermore, Melchisedec "abides a priest continually." Hebrews 7:3 Christ is Melchisedec and Melchisedec is Christ. Hebrews 6:20
God is the same yesterday, today and forever.
The High Priest going into the holy of holies in the temple of God once a year was a sign of things to come (Hebrews 9:24) with Christ becoming the High Priest of our faith, both of the Jewish people and the Gentile nations who are grafting into their tree spiritually. The temple of Solomon built and rebuilt were a picture of things to come when Christ will resurrect Israel and the elect from Gentile nations, and rebuild the temple of God gloriously in Jerusalem.
"BUT CHRIST BEING COME AN HIGH PRIEST OF GOOD THINGS TO COME, BY A GREATER AND MORE PERFECT TABERNACLE, NOT MADE WITH HANDS, THAT IS TO SAY, NOT OF THIS BUILDING (THE TEMPLE OF GOD IN JERUSALEM); NEITHER BY THE BLOOD OF GOATS AND CALVES, BUT BY HIS OWN BLOOD HE ENTERED IN ONCE INTO THE HOLY PLACE, HAVING OBTAINED ETERNAL REDEMPTION FOR US.
"FOR IF THE BLOOD OF BULLS AND OF GOATS, AND THE ASHES OF AN HEIFER SPRINKLING THE UNCLEAN, SANCTIFIES TO THE PURIFYING OF THE FLESH: HOW MUCH MORE SHALL THE BLOOD OF CHRIST, WHO THROUGH THE ETERNAL SPIRIT OFFERED HIMSELF WITHOUT SPOT TO GOD, PURGE YOUR CONSCIENCE FROM DEAD WORKS TO SERVE THE LIVING GOD? Hebrews 9:11/14
You will remember the veil of the temple was broken by an earthquake while the flesh of Jesus was crucified on the cross. This was the sign he as High Priest was able to gain entrance into the holy of holies, but he did not enter into the temple of God made with hands; but rather "INTO HEAVEN ITSELF, NOW TO APPEAR IN THE PRESENCE OF GOD FOR US." Hebrews 9:24
Jesus went to the cross outside of the city and the holy temple where blood sacrifices were offered, to "SANCTIFY THE PEOPLE WITH HIS OWN BLOOD,..." Hebrews 13:13
"LET US GO FORTH THEREFORE UNTO HIM OUTSIDE OF THE CAMP, BEARING HIS REPROACH. FOR HERE HAVE WE NO CONTINUING CITY, BUT WE SEEK ONE TO COME." Hebrews 13:14
Now you see the author of Hebrews was a Prophet. For Jerusalem has not been a continuing city for the people of God, but it fell under the power of the Romans and was occupied by the Arabs and by the Turks and the British before it was miraculously taken back by brave and courageous Israeli's.
Now you should know beyond any doubt the Lord is our High Priest
at the right hand of God in heaven where he intercedes for us,
and this is a great comfort to have a perfect High Priest
while we continue our journey in this corrupt world.
