God can be very terrible.

When Moses was on Mount Sinai to receive the Ten Commandments he asked the LORD God to take Israel as his inheritance and to be their God and the LORD answered him, saying:

"And he said, Behold, I make a covenant: before all thy people I will do marvels, such as have not been done in all the earth, nor in any nation: and all the people among which thou [art] shall see the work of the LORD: for it is a terrible thing that I will do with thee." (Exodus 34:10)

When the forty years of wandering in the desert was finished, the LORD sent Israel into the land to destroy its inhabitants who would not willingly permit the Israelites to depart from the boiling heat of the barren land all those years and the LORD said, "YOU SHALL NOT BE FRIGHTENED AT THEM: FOR THE LORD YOUR GOD IS AMONG YOU, A MIGHTY GOD AND TERRIBLE." (Deuteronomy &;20/21)

It was God who drove the Canaanites out of the land. The Israelites were simply his tools to do it. The LORD knew the inhabitants of the land worshiped idols and would corrupt the Israelites whom He had set aside for Himself those forty years in the desert and after having trained the Hebrew people to serve Him in a holy way peculiar unto the LORD God, the land had to be cleansed of devil worshipers to make way for the worshipers of The Living God.

In the continuing war for rulership of the earth between God and the Devil, the conquest of Canaan was ordered by God. Therefore present day condemnations of Israel is unwarranted and claims that the Bible is a bloody book are unfounded.

Israel did not order the conquest, and the Bible overall is a love your neighbor, love your enemies, and love God...book. The conquest of Canaan was a one time event.

So it is, that God Almighty can be very terrible as the Israelites first found in when God did "TERRIBLE THINGS BY THE RED SEA." (Psalm 106:22) and then appeared to them on Mount Sinai where they were so afraid they asked Moses to go up the mountain to speak with the LORD.

Are you sure you would like to meet God? Listen to what the Mother of the mighty Sampson told her husband after she was visited by the angel of the Lord. "THEN THE WOMAN CAME AND TOLD HER HUSBAND, SAYING, "A MAN OF GOD CAME UNTO ME, AND HIS COUNTENANCE WAS LIKE THE COUNTENANCE OF AN ANGEL OF GOD, VERY TERIBLE: BUT I ASKED HIM NOT WHERE HE WAS FROM, NEITHER TOLD HE ME HIS NAME:" (Judges 13:6) He told her she would have a child and departed.

Manoah and her husband prayed for the angel of the Lord to return and give them precise instructions as to the raising of the child they were supposed to bear for God. The angel of the Lord did return to speak with them, and he did wonderously in departing so they fell on their faces to the ground, thus Manoah said unto his wife, "WE SHALL SURELY DIE, BECAUSE WE HAVE SEEN GOD." (Judges 13:22)

So you thought God was like man, someone you could just walk up to and discourse with, but we read in the sacred Scriptures: "THE LORD MOST HIGH IS TERRIBLE; HE IS A GREAT KING OVER ALL THE EARTH. HE SHALL SUBDUE THE PEOPLE UNDER US, AND THE NATIONS UNDER OUR FEET." (Pslam 47:2/3)

"HE IS TERRIBLE TO THE KINGS OF THE EARTH." (Pslam 76:12) In my lifetime Saddam Hussein found out how terrible God can be when his neck was broken as the trap door opened and he dropped, and fell headlong into the bottomless pit where to this day he is imprisoned in the blackness of darkness there where no light can shine, and his spirit is tormented in the flames of God's wrath.

In the world to come there will be kings among the Gentiles who bring their glory into Jerusalem and they too shall discover the terribleness of the LORD God

Regarding the second coming of Christ, The Prophet Joel says, "THE DAY OF THE LORD IS GREAT AND VERY TERRIBLE." (Joel 2:11)

"THE LORD IS WITH ME AS A MIGHTY TERRIBLE ONE" (Jeremiah 20:11) So it is with prophets and holy men who draw near to the LORD. He is found to be "A MIGHTY TERRIBLE ONE" while believers who do not know God as well, think of gentle Jesus rather than the Lion of Judah.

"Your fierce wrath goes over me; your terrors have cut me off. They came round about me daily like water; they compassed me about together. Lover and friend have you put far from me, and my acquaintance into darkness." (Pslam 88:16)

If you want to know God, you must divide the Word properly. Know "THE GOODNESS AND SEVERITY OF GOD" and not just his goodness. The LORD God will have absolute obedience from his people and anything short of it will not go unnoticed by his all seeing eye. So it is important to "Love the LORD God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength and your neighbor as much as you love yourself."

It is through absolute obedience unto the LORD that his Spirit will flow through you like a river of Living Waters and you will taste of the LORD and you will know that He is good!
