God does not listen to vainity. Jesus taught we were not to pray vain repetitions. You will not wear God out with repetition. He will tune you out, and your prayers will not get the results you desire.
God is provoked with vanities. God sent Zimri to "destroy all the house of Baasha according to the Word which he spoke against Baasha by Jehu the prophet. For all the sins of Baasha and the sins of Elah his son, by which they sinned, and by which they made Israel to sin, in provoking the LORD God of Israel to anger with their vanities." (1 Kings 16:12/13)
It was not just the vanities that provoked the LORD, but the effect of them upon Israel his chosen people for whom he is jealous.
We do not know exactly what the vanities are that Baasha and his son committed to cause Israel to sin, but we know they did not lead Israel in holiness. When Jehu pronounced the prophecy against Baasha he compared Baasha to Jeroboam who caused Israel to worship golden calves instead of the LORD in Jerusalem. Worshiping golden calves that could do nothing at all in response to worship and prayer was vanity.
"ALL IS VANITY AND VEXATION OF SPIRIT" we are told in Ecclesiastes 1:14. If you want to live with purpose in your life, learn to do all you do in the perfect will of God; otherwise it will all prove to be vanity and vexation of Spirit.
God has a purpose for creating mankind. If you are not committed to his purpose, you are living a vain life.
"WHO SHALL ASCEND INTO THE HILL OF THE LORD? OR WHO SHALL STAND IN HIS HOLY PLACE? HE THAT HAS CLEAN HANDS, AND A PURE HEART; WHO HAS NOT LIFTED UP HIS SOUL UNTO VANITY, NOR SWORN DECEITFULLY. HE SHALL RECEIVE THE BLESSING FROM THE LORD, AND RIGHTEOUOSNESS FROM THE GOD OF HIS SALVATION." Psalm 24:3/5
"DRAW NEAR TO GOD AND HE WILL DRAW NEAR TO YOU." Only then can you cease to be vain.
"SURELY GOD WILL NOT HEAR VANITY, NEITHER WILL
THE ALMIGHTY REGARD IT." Job 35:13
