This document is in no way a medical diagnosis nor is it a prescription to medicate your particular cold, flu or pnemonia. This document contains good advice on how to take care of yourself at home and at work to speed up the healing process. Our nation is diversified in its views on how to care for plugged noses, coughs, sneezes and other flu related symptons. For every medical practitioner and individual in the United States, you are likely to find a different opinion on how to treat cold and flu symptoms.
The national problem is frustrated by the inability of the consumer to buy antibiotics over the counter to fight cold and flu symptons whereas Canada and Mexico trust the use of antibiotics into the hands of the consumer where it belongs. The reason for this monopoly is easy to see. American doctors charge a high price for the public to come in their door. It is essentially unearned money. They look in your throat and see its red and swollen and tell you what you already knew. You are infected with a sore throat.
The manufacturers of antibiotics lose sales in a big way because of legal restraints against the sale of antibiotics and ought to lobby for their availability.
The rich have no problem paying to go in the door of a doctor's office either by cash or insurance, but for the poor it is different. They stay home and suffer through colds and the flu rather than pay a doctor's fees to obtain an antibiotic prescription, and the antibiotic manufacturers are losing big numbers financially.
Many stay away from doctors and suffer through the severity of colds and flu's because they cannot afford to pay the going in the door cost of a doctor's office to find out what they already know, that they are infected with a cold and flu virus. It doesn't require a higher IQ when you are coughing, hacking and sneezing and leaking fluids from your nose, to shine a flashlight into your mouth in front of a mirror to see if your throat is inflamed. You already knew that before you looked. But doctors in America would lose loads of money they are making off of colds and flu infections were they to allow antibiotics to be sold over the counter without a prescription from them. So it is that once again, as in so many other matters of importance; our neighbors have more freedom than we do in what was once "the land of the free."
There are tools needed to fight a cold and flu infection. Too much bed rest is not one of them. You need to maintain your body strength to fight infections. Neither is it wise to pile on the blankets and try to sweat it out. You'll only make it worse by incubating the germs. Most of the remedies sold over the counter are a result of marketing campaigns and are a lot of hot air. Massive doses of vitimin C will not cure you though they will probably do no harm. What you really need to do dear believer, is consider how much of a victim you have become watching television where you are bombarded with sales propaganda for the merchandising of cure all products. When you realize you are infected, it's time to get down to the business of medicating yourself skillfully. We are leading up to those procedures and why they work to combat flu and cold infections effectively.
Many among the poor as well as the rich are already defeated when cold and flu symptons appear. Many speak of their own remedies as though they were tried and true while others say, they will try to beat it on their own to build up the body's antibodies. They are often times making an excuse to do little or nothing. It's a a cousin to pride and rebellion. Let the Lord take care of my health. I've got better things to do. Don't bother instructing me.
There may be a small element of truth in letting the body fight the infection by itself, but the math doesn't work. If you are infected by hundreds of germs, you need to counter attack before they become thousands and tens of thousands of germs. It's a war. And it must be fought realistically. When your troops of antibodies are obviously outnumbered at some critical area of your body, in the nose, in the throat, in the ears, in the lungs; ...you need to attack the enemy where he is and drive him from your domain. Germs are invaders. Since when are they guests to be treated with hospitality?
The first tool needed is a good supply of antibiotics. If its in your power, antibiotics should already be in stock at all times so you can counterattack any infection right away and knock it out, not just with antibiotics, but with skill at fighting infections. There are other tools. You'll find them mentioned as you read on. Included among them is plenty of good rest according to your body needs, good healthy food, and light duty if its in your power.
Every coach worth his salt teaches fundamentals first. If you want to be the head and not the tail, you will need to interpret sneezes properly. A sneeze is the warning system God has built into your body to alert you something is wrong. There are rare occasions where a sneeze is caused by sunlight or something else other than a cold and flu warning; but most of the time a sneeze is telling you your body has a a chill somewhere that you probably had not noticed and its time to do something about it before a cold and flu infection is set into motion.
Many times the cause of the sneeze is difficult to detect which means you must search for it. In youth, a cool even chilling breeze on the body is much appreciated. The body heater works good in young people, but as the individual ages; the body heater looses its effectiveness and chills come much easier. Breezes that used to be enjoyable become threatening. And some of those cool winds cause trouble for youths who have not yet developed discernment concerning these matters; and you may be one of them. Irregardless as to whether you are young or old, a sneeze is a warning and ought not to be ignored.
Either pull on a sweatshirt or jacket and a hat or close a window or windows nearest you. Heat rises, so it dissipates from the top of the head very easily. That's why hats are more important than they seem. A sweatshirt, jacket or coat does not warm you up. It captures and contains heat produced by your body to warm you. If you are older, your body heat will not be as hot as it used to be. You willneed a little more insulation and perhaps more windows closed or the heat turned up all the more the older you become.
A sneeze produces the need to analyze the situation immediately. If you do not bring the sneezes to a halt right away, the juices in your nostrils will probably begin to flow and once they make contact with cold and flu germs, they often times fester into an infection whereever they linger.
Sneezes continue to act as warning signals during a cold and flu trial. Their warnings ought to be all the more heeded if you want to overcome your infection. You will probably be more inclined to chills when you are sick with the flu, so you'll want to be all the more careful about sitting close to an open window or going outside without a jacket and a hat. Another thing common in hot climates is exposure due to the wearing of shorts. The legs can pick up a chill. Another common mistake is going barefoot. The feet can quickly pick up a chill. AVOID CHILLS AT ALL TIMES.
There are basically three colors to cold and flu infections. Transparent, yellow and green. Transparent drainage seems harmless, but it is a red alert for you to counterattack right away while the infection is in its early stages. Yellow flem means the infection is lingering and festering from where you coughed it up or blew it out and has proceeded to a more serious stage. Green means your infection has reached the advanced stage of infection.
There are variations of the colors already mentioned. The flem you ejected from your body may be half way transparent, halfway yellow. The green may be light in color and fresh looking. It just turned green. A darker more full bodied lump of green flem probably lingered and festered for a much longer time than the yellow or transparent flem you've been ejecting from your nose or lungs. Bright green flem suggests your infection has reached the most serious stage.
If your infection is isolated to your nose, do not breath air through your infected nostrils into your lungs. You'll infect your lungs, then you'll find it hard to breath and you'll be coughing continually to try to clear your air passages to your lungs. When you know your nostrils are infected in any way, make yourself breath through your mouth consciously even though its uncomfortable for you. It'll be worth it.
If your infection is siolated to your throat, do not breath through your mouth into your lungs. You'll infect them. Only breath through your nose. It is important to avoid infecting your lungs.
Study the flem as you eject it. It is your gage. You need to trace where it came from to know what infection is there, and you need to focus on whether that infection point is getting better or worse, so you can respond to the situation skillfully. If the infection in your nose is getting worse, perhaps an increase in warm water nose washes is called for. If the infection is in your throat, consider using ground up antibiotic powder gurgled or pressed onto the infection by your sterialized fingertip. If the infection has spread beyond your reach down into the esophogus, you can mix antibiotic powder into a spoonful of honey and roll it down on the enemy germs. Some antibiotic powders like penicilon tend to kill germs on contact. Washing your nose or mouth out regularly tends to clear the present threat of lingering germs festering and inflamming the flesh where they are residing.
Sucking warm water up into your nostrils to clear them of infection allows you to locate the source of infection by the burning sensation you'll feel. It is that exact location of pain in the front or back chambers of your nostrils that you will want to apply ground up antibiotic powder with a softened cue tip. Roll on the antibiotic powder very gently to the infected spot being careful to avoid sneezing out the healing powder. The same principle applies when you are washing out your nostrils with warm water. AVOID SNEEZING. Sneezing is the trigger that set the fluids in motion in the first place that became infected.
INFECTED FLEM IS NEVER TO BE SWALLOWED irregardless of its color. Those germs will quickly multiply into your bloodstream and overpower your body's immune system. Even if its inconvenient or embarrassing, find a way to dispose of infected flem you have brought up.
Cold and flu infections often times begin in the nose. Oddly enough, in snow country, the nose is almost always lubricated by drainage from the icy atmosphere. Transferring infections from one person to another by sneezing or coughing is more difficult because the lubrication already in the nose of by standers blocks the germs from reaching the fleshy membrane. But in dry hot climates it is another story. In New Mexico, Arizona, and California and Texas noses can dry up like the deserts there and an infected cough or sneeze can transmit the flu virus immediately to a recipient. The individual can wake up feeling great that morning, get sneezed on while riding a bus to work; and feel the flu coming on strong by the time they punch in at the time clock. There are flu seasons in those states where a high percentage of the population is infected.
A lot of people like to use petroleum jelly or vasoline in their nose. They tend to plug up the breathing apparatus. Eucerin skin cream is a good lubricant for the first chambers of the nostrils. It's important if your nose is infected and in need of comfort, for you to stick one clean right finger in the cream or jelly and lubricate the right nostril. Then put one clean left finger in the cream or jelly and lubricate the left nostril. In that way you are not infecting your lubricant. Chap stick is no good for a nostril lubricant. You push it into an infected nostril once and it is infected.
If all you are aware it is a nose infection, you should counter attack with all your power to stop it from growing into a serious flu or pnemonia case. Use all of your power against it right from the beginning. Antibiotics, warm water nose washes, antibiotic powdering of the infected spots, lubricants, good food, light duty and plenty of rest. When you are lying down, avoid lying on your back where gravity pulls drainage down into your throat and infects it too. You want to put the fire out, not burn the forest down.
Do not be deceived simply because you are able to breath through your nostrils. That does not prove you are freed up from the infection you've been fighting there. Let's say you just blew your nose and expelled a load of infected flem. Great. Now get some water into your hands and suck it into your nostrils to cleanse them out again. An obstacle is out of the way and you will want to get deep into the inner chamber of your nostrils where they drain into the tonsils. Some evidence of infection comes out but don't stop yet. Suck water into your nostrils five and ten times to totally break loose any infection making itself at home in your nose. You'll be amazed. The more you wash the interior of your nostrils, the more infection will break loose. You should be able to see and feel it as the water comes back out into your hands. Afterwards, your nose should feel great for a while if you cleared it of all that was festering there. And the healing process will be greatly speeded up.
If you absolutely cannot suck water into your nostrils, use a cue tip to open the passages carefully, then suck water into your nose and blow it back out. Do not swallow the infected water.
How many times have you awakened in the morning with a sore throat. You probably slept on your back and allowed infected drainage that seemed harmless to you at the time, to drain down and linger in your throat where it festered and infected it too. How many times have you disregarded nose drainage as no big deal only to find yourself flat on your back for a week or two with a serious case of the flu?
Sleep on your stomach as much as possible. If you sleep on your right side, you'll probably end up with the more serious nose infection on the right side of your nose which was the down side due to your choice of sleeping positions. Had you slept on your stomach, the drainage is more controllable. You can move your head from side to side on your pillow as the situation dictates. What ever you do, avoid pressing the outer wall of your nostrils against the inner wall to where an infected wall is now infecting the other wall and increasing the production of infectuous fluids draining from your nose.
Sleep on your stomach once it becomes evident there is drainage from your nostrils. If you are blowing it out of the front, it can find its way down the back way to infect your throat. What's really great about ground powder penicilon is: you can wet your finger tip, stick it in the powder and rub it over your infected outer tonsils if you still have that little sac housed on the roof of your mouth and it should kill the infection. Likewise, if you don't mind gagging a little, powder your finger and rub it into your throat area as much as possible to kill the infection there.
If you are already taking a healthy dose of antibiotics at that time, they are working in your blood stream interiorly to kill the germs infecting your throat and the antibiotic powder is working exteriorly to kill them. Militarily speaking, you are crushing the enemy between your forces and should be able to bring those areas under control and remove the danger of infecting your lungs. You need at least one infection free way to breath air into your lungs by the mouth or the nose. When they both are infected, there is a serious threat your lungs will soon be infected.
Once the throat or even a portion of the lungs is infected, the irritant of it will make you want to cough hard to eject the problem. Be careful to not cough too hard or you will make your throat infection worse. What is recommended when the flu gets this serious is a good solid dose of antibiotic powder to the back of the tongue where instead of swallowing it which is what the body will be inclined to do, you help the powder stick around and mingle with your salavia so the mix will work the back area of your throat and kill as many germs as possible.
When you are in the more serious condition just mentioned, you are definitely doing
something wrong. Properly armed, you should be able to combat nose and throat infections.
One of the biggest tendencies is for people to become dependent on the antibiotics to fight
their war for them. Antibiotics are your artilliary. It's your job to aim it at the enemy and to
focus on everything else that needs to be done. If you're doing your thing and letting the
antibiotics do theirs, there's a good chance you get sicker instead of better. You might even
laugh this good counsel to scorn and say it doesn't work. It's up to you to make it work.
This letter was received as one of those forwarded as a warning about Zicam. If you have it in your medicine cabinet or see it sold on a pharmacy shelf, don't buy it. Zicam is an example of the junk manufacturers market to the public in the love of money. There are so many injuries and deaths from bad medicines in the United States its a national tragedy.
She wrote: "This is crazy.....It's true too! The FDA website warns against using Zicam. But I found out the hard way.
I want my friends and loved ones to know what has happened to me in hopes that it will never happen to you or anybody you care about. About 10 days ago, I felt a cold coming on; so before I went to bed I used Zicam Cold Remedy Nasal Gel. It's supposed to help you "get over your cold faster." Immediately after spraying it into each nostril I felt the most horrific burning sensation imaginable. It literally felt like pepper spray going directly into my brain. It burned all the way to the top of my skull. My nasal passages swelled, my eyes watered and the burning lasted all night long into the next day.
After about a day, I realized I couldn't taste anything and thought, "Wow - I must really have a bad cold." Then I noticed I couldn't smell coffee brewing, couldn't smell perfume when I put it on, couldn't smell the popcorn I burned, couldn't smell my favorite scented candle.
So I panicked and starting smelling everything I could find that had really strong odors - ammonia, finger nail polish remover, bleach, etc. I couldn't smell ANYTHING! I started tasting everything that had really strong tastes such as HOT salsa, raw red onions, Doritos, coffee. I couldn't taste ANYTHING!
Suddenly the things we take for granted were gone. The quality of my life was ruined. I couldn't smell or taste ANYTHING! But I could see and hear and touch and talk and breath and walk, so those wonders remained, but who would have ever dreamed a devil's brew was in that spray bottle of Zicam waiting to ambush my taste and smell and paralyze them.
I told my mother about this and she said, "Oh, I've heard Zicam can affect your Olfactory nerve." I went online, typed in "Zicam side effects" and bam - up popped all sorts of web sites with people reporting the same thing I experienced. This past June, Zicam pulled the swabs for adults and children off the shelf but not the nasal gel.
My doctor said Zicam "FRIED" my Olfactory nerve and the results are probably permanent. He put me on a strong dose of a steroid called Prednisone in hopes of recovering ANY bit of the nerve damage but he told me to "take this and pray." He said he had read about the side effects of Zicam and couldn't believe it's still on the shelf.
It isn't FDA approved.
I am taking the Prednisone and praying but nothing is happening.. I LITERALLY CANNOT SMELL OR TASTE ANYTHING! I can tell if foods are hot or cold, I can tell the consistency and faintly detect if it's salty but that's it..
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE pass this on to everyone you care about. I don't want this to happen to ANYONE else!!!!!!!!!! And if you have Zicam in your medicine cabinet--THROW IT AWAY!"
Well folks. That ends her letter but not her loss of quality of life. You should not how the Prednisone did nothing to help her. Doctors will always prescribe something for you to purchase. They are drug dealers. Its bound up with their financial desire to tell you to come back to see them in a couple of weeks to check on the progress of their patients so they can get more of your money.
She may as well have thrown out the prescription and declined his invitation to return to his office for another examination. Do you have any idea of how hard those drugs they prescribe are on your interior organs? Oddly enough they have no idea either or they wouldn't prescribe so many drugs with such obvious side effects you know when you take them they are not going to make you feel better nor heal you either one.
So beware of drug prescribing doctors. There never was born a doctor who
could add one day to their life. We live our lives as tales that are already told
and die at the exact time God Almighty preordained before the foundations
of the world were laid. May the Lord help you grow up into His marvelous
You feel overheated. Your nose begins draining. You sneeze. Your immune system is weak because you have been overdoing it.
These are all flu warnings.
Eat a good beef protein meal. Take a hot shower and a nap.
Do not make any exceptions and swallow the drainage from your nose if even your mouth fills up with it when you have no paper towels hankerchief. The infected drainage is active and will multiply quickly to all parts of your body through the circulatory plumbling system in your body and if your immune system is presently weakened, you're going to become seriously sick.
Carry antibiotics with you and when you feel the tinge of infection on the far back of your tongue, drop one. When you have drainage in your nose drop one and consider what else you can do to stop it before it increases in strength.
Too many people are surrendered to the flu and colds thinking there is nothing that can be done about them. If you walk into a closed space such as an unventilated office or on a bus where people are coughing and sneezing, get as far away from them as possible and put yourself on an alert.
If you carry antibiotics, exposure to infected people is a good time to drop a 500 miligram tablet to increase the strength of your immune system for the next couple of hours in case the infected air got into your mouth or nose and was captured there by the wetness.
Once you are sick you are still not defeated. Do not swallow even a little of the infected drainage even if your mouth fills up with it. If you are on a bus, hold it in your mouth until your stop or go to the back door when the bus stops, open it and spit it out.
Eat good high protein roast beef food, take a good warm hot shower with the windows closed to avoid chills. Chills are particularly bad when your throat is already sore. And get some rest soon after eating well. Stay far away from sugars and all kinds of sweets. Those are vainity foods and are of no use in overcoming the flu, but they will irritate the membrane of your already sore throat and that goes for sweetened throat lozenges and cough syrups. Sugar steals the protective membrane your throat naturally needs to protect itself.
Watch out also for advertised Sugar Free Extra Strength Sore Throat Lozenges with Pain Numbing Relief, shall we say with a Cherry taste. Its sweetened even if they say its not. Those products do lubricate and provide temporary relief from the soreness but you need to get on the healing track and stay there to beat the flu.
There are other forms of temporary relief. Warm milk is good. Sip it to make the temporary relief it provides last longer. Milk leaves a thick pasty membrane in your mouth. Leave it there if you can instead of washing out the undesireable taste of it with water. But remember, as soon as there is drainage to the mouth from festering infections in the nasal cavities, wash the mouth out with water and brush your teeth with throw away tooth brushes from the 99 cents store. If you can't afford more than one tooth brush, stick it in boiling water and kill the germs on it.
Ventilate your home and office and crack the windows on your vehicle so you are not infecting yourself or your passengers with air you have already breathed while ill with the flu.
Antibitics have almost no effect on the nasal passages because so little blood carries the medicine to them. Wash your nasal passages out constantly with warm water and if you cannot get the warm water into the upper nasal passages force them open with cue tips and then suck the warm water up into those passages even though it is inconvenient and may even make your head spin if you're really sick. Your strategy is to keep the infection from festering on the walls of your nasal passages so they have a chance to heal the more quickly and stop draining infection down into your throat.
The right antibiotics will knock out much of a sore throat because a good amount of blood flows to the throat and tongue. Doctors don't like to prescribe antibiotics for the flu once their patients are overwhelmed with infection because they know they will not knock out the infection that is now spread into your blood stream to all of your body. But antibiotics will give some relief from sore throats.
Now this remedy for sore throats will sound a little odd since you probably have never heard of it. When your throat is sore, a big part of the problem is the swelling in the back of your throat so some people have a hard time getting even a few words out without choking on them. The infected throat can get so swollen in the epiglottis area it is touching the other side of the chamber and infecting it too. You're not going to like this advise particularly if you don't do it right.
IF YOU DON'T EXERCISE EXTREME CAUTION IN ICING THE BACK OF YOUR THROAT, YOU COULD CHOKE YOURSELF TO DEATH.
To relieve swelling in the throat, take a non sugar free popcycle, break it into one stick, and run water on it til it melts down to about a third of its normal size. Don't melt the stick area of the popcycle. You need the stick handle to pull it back out of your throat so you don't choke to death. Lean over the toilet so gravity will cause it to fall out of your mouth if the stick breaks off. Take a deep breath and cautiously insert part of the popcycle NOT ALL into the swollen throat area if it will allow it and hold it there as long as you can stand it, perhaps for as long as fifteen to thirty seconds. You will suffer from the sensation of choking and will feel forced to cough it out immediately. This takes courage.
Do it several times to reduce the swelling so you can breath better through your throat and stop the infected parts of your throat from touching and continuing to infect itself.
It is the Light of the Lord in me telling you these things, so pay careful attention. And if the American Medical Association doesn't like it, their law suit is welcome for all of the publicity it will bring the library of a website the Lord has guided me to program in the latter years of my life from all of the wonderful things He has taught me to minister to you. But if you don't follow my instructions precisely and lean over the entire time you are inserting the ice popcycle into your swollen throat area and you choke to death, your law suit is not welcome. You are at fault.
Now everyone has their favorite way of sleeping. When you have the flu you absolutely cannot lie on your back for very long. The drainage is going to come down into your mouth and infect it from your nasal passages. Make sure you fall asleep on your stomach and not on your back or on your side. Habits are not easy to break, so some of you will not be able to mend your ways and just as soon as your nasal cavities are seriously infected, drainage from your sleeping on your side and back will find its way to your throat while you are sleeping and you will be the worse for it.
Some of this is repetitive, but remember we are summarizing. When your nasal passages are infected, breath through your mouth. When your throat is infected, breath through your nose. You must avoid breathing the infection into your lungs if you can. Have you ever noticed that just when you think you have beat the flu, you wake up with your lungs full of infection. You breathed it into your lungs and now you must pay the price. That's called pnemonia. Its one of the worst cases of the flu you can get.
Too much bed time is not good for you. It weakens you. Don't be a wimp. Get up and suffer through whatever needs to be done, but make sure you keep yourself on light duty til you get well. Stay away from doing things that will drain the strength from you that you need to overcome the flu. Sex is very bad for you when you are infected even in the smallest way. Sports require extreme amounts of effort. Give yourself a few days of light duty to overcome any serious infection that sets in. You can go to work, but six hours are better than eight or twelve if you can arrange it. So many Americans are on rigid schedules at work particularly in the blue collar class of workers that it is hard to readjust your schedules. That's where sick pay and vacation time come in handy if you are not abusing it. Take a few days off and do things around your residence that need doing, but stick to light duty.
Just as soon as you wear yourself down, your immune system is weakened. When you are at maximum strength, your immune system is at its maximum strength. Flu infections will deceive you into believing they have gone away when in fact you have breathed it into your lungs. Everyone of us has probably gone to bed thinking we had the flu beat and in the morning our lungs are full of infection.
Even coughing requires knowledge and skill. Learn to breath deep into your stomach before coughing hard to bring mucous up from your vocal chords. Those who do not learn to cough out mucous may be allowing it to fester into infections and may even find themselves suffering from emphysema. Learn to cough up mucous and always eject it from your body whether it looks infected or not.
Now its commonly believed clear mucous is supposedly not infected, but that is not always true. Yellowing mucous is the next obvious stage of infection and greenish infection is all the more infected.
Eject them all. Any time you can cough it up or gather it up in your mouth from your nasal passages or snort it from your tonsils, it does not belong in your body.
In closing this lecture, let me remind you to never surrender to infections. Fight them from the beginning before they multiply and gain power. Learn to observe every detail of this instruction and you may discover that instead of making yourself miserable by allowing the flu to take you over three and four times a year like so many people, you will be able to keep it from overpowering you altogether.
There are a lot of factors. Your health. Your discernment. Your will to fight. Your environment. Your access to antibiotics. Your discipline. Your age. Your exposure to others already infected. But do fight back! Don't surrender to it in the name of strengthening your immune system like some presume to do. Surrendering to the flu does not strenthen your immune system.
May God help you. Amen.
