In this study it is established by the Scriptures that the servant of the Lord must die daily to the things of this world, to his love of kin, to his material possessions and even the love of his own life and if he does not, he cannot be the Lord's disciple. No man can follow the Lord without taking up the cross of a living sacrifice daily. There is no anointing without death of self.

TOTAL SELF DENIAL:

COMMENTS

"I PROTEST BY YOUR REJOICING WHICH I HAVE IN CHRIST JESUS OUR LORD, I DIE DAILY." (l Corinthains l5:31) Saint Paul oftentimes makes a difference between the apostles and the Church. His rejoicing was in the Spirit of the Anointing. He died to self daily. They did not. Their rejoicing was not as full as his rejoicing in the Spirit of Christ. He walked in the joy of the Lord daily dying to self.
"If any man comes to me, and hates not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple." (St. Luke l4:26) It is necessary for any individual called to be a disciple to treat their kinfolk according to their spiritual merit rather than by tradition accepting them no matter what they do. Holy men avoid becoming a respector of persons by doing so. Kinfolk can be very difficult. They will not tolerate the extreme poverty of discipleship both out of concern for their loved ones and for their own finances. Kinfolk can also be intrusive thinking they have a birthright to come and go in a Saint's life irregardless of his calling to serve God 24/7. They base friendship on birth, not merit. So they are not good companions or counsellors for someone trying to attain to spiritual perfection. It will seem to them they are hated when they are not treated according to traditon, but Saints have a greater love for God and for mankind than their kin do; and must live a strict lifestyle without distractions to focus fully on God. King David became a stranger and an alien to his kinfolk because of strict adherence to a life of devotion to God. (Psalm 69:8)
"So likewise, whosoever forsakes not all that he has, cannot be my disciple." (St. Luke l4:33) Jesus called his disciples and commanded them, saying "TAKE NOTHING for your journey, except a staff only; no script, no bread, no money in your wallet: But be shod with sandals; and (do) not put on two coats." (St Mark 6:8/9) This is a picture of discipleship for those who receive supernatural confirmation to forsake all and go out as living sacrifices. Some try to do it in zeal, but "zeal without knowledge is vain." There is little chance of success without the calling. When a disciple graduates into the offices of the Spirit, it is possible to own possessions again. The disciples were sent out with nothing in their hands but a shepherd's staff so they could "press on" toward the prize of walking in the divine nature of Christ. Their focus was not distracted by possessions. Their mission was a great spiritual success.

"IF ANY MAN WILL COME AFTER ME, LET HIM DENY HIMSELF AND TAKE UP HIS CROSS DAILY, AND FOLLOW ME." (St. Luke 9:23) The flesh of the disciple is his cross as he follows after the Spirit of Jesus Christ daily. He cannot take his hand off of the plough if he wishes to remain worthy of the anointing. For as soon as he does take his hands off of the plough, the Person of Christ who is the anointing, steps back from him; and he returns to himself. It is important to understand how strict your discipline must be to be filled with the Spirit of Christ: It is more difficult than most Christians think to totally deny yourself. It is not something you can do in your own natural power without crucifying the flesh in the knowledge of God. You must control your temperment, control your tongue, cease to speak vanities, cast down every imagination, bring every thought into captivity to Christ, control your wandering eyes, cease to follow after what you see visibly, cease to fear what man can do to you, cease to lust for food and for material things, be anxious for nothing, avoid respecting the rich for their riches, or the powerful for their power and the beautiful for their beauty. And give no special regard to kinfolk who refuse to display godly merits. Forsake your material goods, and make sure your wife and children are provided for before you answer the call. The Spirit of the Lord loves to inhabit pure thoughts, but disciples will quench the Spirit in the blink of an eye if they entertain mpure thoughts or come after Jesus with their own agenda. Christ will not inhabit the self-willed.
"IF YOU WILL BE PERFECT, GO AND SELL THAT YOU HAVE, AND GIVE TO THE POOR, AND YOU SHALL HAVE TREASURE IN HEAVEN: AND COME AND FOLLOW ME." (St. Matthew l9:21) Jesus was speaking to the rich young ruler who had come to make sure he was saved. Jesus leveraged the man's fears by calling him into discipleship, but the rich young man clung to his riches and went away grieved, supposing he was lost in his sins. He was asking about salvation but the Lord called him to perfection. Anyone who wants to go on to spiritual perfection must do so by obtaining the keys to the kingdom anointing from Jesus. It's a no pain, no gain gospel. Worldly power and materialistic possessions distract and quench the Spirit necessary to grow into perfection in Christ. Total self denial makes room for Christ in devout fully committed vessels of the Lord.
"FOR WHOSOEVER WILL SAVE HIS LIFE SHALL LOSE IT: AND WHOSOEVER WILL LOSE HIS LIFE FOR MY SAKE SHALL FIND IT." (St. Matthew l6:25) THE CHURCH SAVES THEIR LIVES TO LIVE FOR THEMSELVES, BUT THEY SHALL LOSE THE LIFE THEY HAVE CHOSEN WHEN RESURRECTED TO THE WORLD TO COME WHERE THE FORMER THINGS SHALL NOT BE CALLED TO MIND. MEANWHILE, THOSE WHO LOSE THEIR LIFE FOR THE SAKE OF THE LORD WILL FIND IT. TRUE LIFE FOR BELIEVERS IS HID IN CHRIST. EVERY SAINT OUGHT TO RECOGNIZE THE CALL TO MARTYRDOM IMPLICITLY BUILT INTO LOSING THEIR LIVES FOR THE SAKE OF ATTAINING TO CHRIST.
